Free Play for Kids is seeking enthusiastic Assistant Coaches to join our part-time Free to Play program for the 2025-2026 school year.
If you've played or coached sports such as soccer, hockey, basketball, or flag football--and you love working with kids--we'd love to hear from you!
As an Assistant Coach, you'll support the delivery of fun, safe, and engaging after-school sessions for children ages 8-12. Our program goes beyond the game, weaving in physical literacy, social-emotional learning, and nutrition education.
This role is perfect for energetic, positive leaders who are passionate about sport and want to make a lasting impact in their community.
Education & Qualifications
Working towards or completion of a degree/diploma in Physical Education, Sport & Recreation, Kinesiology, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Experience coaching or leading youth sports teams, and/or strong personal playing experience.
Standard First Aid & CPR certification, or ability to obtain quickly.
Clear, up-to-date Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Coaching certifications are considered a strong asset.
Responsibilities
Programming Tasks
Work with children ages 8-12 in the Free to Play program, delivering sessions in collaboration with a Head Coach and fellow Assistant Coaches.
Lead practices, games, and activities that keep kids engaged, safe, and having fun.
Support special events, projects, and broader program initiatives as needed.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with teammates, parents, and stakeholders.
Demonstrate Free Play's core values in all interactions with participants, partners, and colleagues.
Follow organizational policies, including wearing the provided uniform (name tag and vest) while on duty.
Represent and uplift the communities Free Play serves.
Embrace and promote the power of sport as a tool for social good.
Training & Development Tasks
Participating in weekly curriculum meetings with management and other coaches.
Completing additional training and certifications as required through the Free Play training program.

Position Conditions
This is a part-time paid role (approx. 5-15 hours/week).
Program hours are typically:
Monday-Wednesday & Friday: 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Thursday: 2:00 pm - 5:30 pm
The job is performed in schools and recreation settings, but work settings may vary depending on projects.
