Reporting to the Manager, Vegetation Management, you will work with a team of professionals at our Truro location.   • You will be responsible for planning, organizing and implementing regional annual vegetation management plans.
  • You will be required to coordinate, inspect and audit activities of vegetation management contractors. You will be accountable to represent NSPI\'s interest in the resolution of vegetation management issues with public and private landowners.
  • You will be required to work together with Operations and Engineering in carrying out and completing the vegetation management plan.
  • You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province.
  • You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the Environmental Management System processes and initiatives.
  • This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

  • The successful candidate must be a graduate Forest Technician/Technologist or Forester from a recognized educational institution.
  • The successful candidate must be proficient in the use of computer spreadsheets and word processing software.
  • Experience with the use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is required.
  • Candidates should have at least three years contract administration experience. Financial management skills, arboricultural experience, herbicide application training, vegetation management experience and knowledge of the utility electrical operations would be an asset.
  • You must hold a valid Nova Scotia driver\xe2\x80\x99s license satisfactory to NSPI with a minimum of two years licensed driving experience You are a detailed-oriented individual, working to a high standard.
  • You possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills. You are extremely organized, with a strong ability to multi-task.
Strong communication skills (oral, written and computer) are required. You must demonstrate your commitment to personal development. Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. from the floor to overhead level. Able to carry 20 lbs. with both hands on a minimal basis.
  • Able to push and pull 20 lbs. with whole and upper body strength on a minimal basis.
  • Perform static reaching at waist level on a frequent basis, shoulder level on an occasional basis and from below waist to overhead level on a minimal basis.
  • Perform frequent to constant sitting.
  • Perform occasional to frequent walking. Perform standing, squatting, bending, stooping, forward flexional and neck flexion movements on an occasional basis. Perform kneeling, crouching, climbing, and neck extension movements on a minimal basis.
  • Ability to perform fine finger manipulation and possess a frequent light grasp while performing turning motions.
