This position works in the Golf - Operations organizational unit. This is supervisory work involving responsibility for the maintenance, servicing and operation of an eighteen hole public golf course and an eighteen hole pitch and putt course, and an eighteen hole disc golf course, and adjacent areas. The Foreperson plans, supervises and participates as required in the work of a group of subordinates including subordinate supervisors engaged in the overall maintenance and servicing of the course, and assists a supervisor in planning and developing maintenance programs; assists in programming irrigation schedules using existing irrigation software. Understands turfgrass pests and uses pesticides and sprayers to protect turfgrass. The incumbent prepares and maintains work records and reports; participates in the preparation of budget estimates; reviews and signs employee time sheets, ensures the safety of work crews and public by advising and enforcing observance of accident prevention methods; deals courteously and effectively with golf course patrons and the general public. Performs related work as required.



Qualifications include up to high school graduation supplemented by technical courses related to the work plus considerable experience in golf course operations and maintenance in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and equipment including new technology used in the maintenance and servicing of a regulation eighteen hole golf course, including knowledge of other trades such as urban forestry, horticulture and irrigation as they relate to the position. Ability to plan, assign, schedule, supervise and participate in the work of a moderate sized group of subordinates engaged in golf course operational, maintenance, servicing, greenskeeping and semi-skilled gardening tasks; to assist a supervisor in planning and developing maintenance programs; to instruct and train subordinates and to ensure the safety of work crews and public; to prepare routine work records and reports; experience using SAP and related computer programs effectively is considered an asset. Skill in the use of a variety of tools and light equipment used in the work. A Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia and a Pesticide Applicators Certificate are required.
