Food Security Coordinator

Full Time, Term end date March 1, 2026



It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit, and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

The Food Security Coordinator provides support to the Food Security team at Tungasuvvingat Inuit by assisting with weekly coordination, distribution, and data collection activities. Working under the guidance of senior staff, the Coordinator helps facilitate the delivery of the Food Security Program based out of the Vanier location, serving Inuit community members in the Ottawa area.



Responsibilities:



Help with unloading and stocking deliveries, assist in the daily ordering, inventory management, preparation, and stocking of country food, and support the team lead with food purchasing as needed. Providing respectful, culturally appropriate, and efficient support to Inuit community members in the Ottawa area during Food Bank Week, including assisting with food distribution, responding to community needs, and ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment. Assist in fundraising efforts and help raise awareness about the goals and needs of the Food Security Program by engaging with community members, promoting initiatives through various communication channels, and supporting events or campaigns that highlight the program's impact and importance. Provide support by completing a variety of tasks assigned by the team lead or manager, including organizing materials, helping with events or programs, and working with other team members to make sure programming runs smoothly and meets program goals.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have knowledge of the Inuit culture, values and beliefs. Working well with team members, helping with different tasks as needed. Ordering and stocking food, preparing and handling food. Providing good service to community members, helping set-up and run events, support fundraising efforts, communicating with community and team, organized and be flexible and adaptable.



Completion of Secondary School is required. Community College or Undergraduate Degree in social services or similar filed is preferred. One to two years' experience in Customer Services is required and one to two years' experience in Social Services is preferred.



Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms and electronic records management applications is required. Clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Availability to work evenings and weekends (rare) is required. Ability to speak Inuktitut is preferred.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is between $53,000 and $58,000 TI offers a competitive total compensation package. Food Security is located at 297 Savard Avenue, Ottawa. The Food Security Coordinator works primarily in a busy distribution center, involving outdoor distribution, also work in an office setting for administrative tasks.
