Job Purpose:

This position will collaborate with category business partners in Canada and the U.S. to drive innovation while assuring food safety throughout the product design and commercialization process for specific product categories. The individual in this role and will have strong laboratory skills and experience in HACCP microbiological validations. This role will lead the development of key N.A food safety policies and provide food safety expertise to support supply chain issues, customer inquiries and special situations. This position is suited for an experienced Microbiologist that can perform independently in a fast-paced environment while managing a diverse set of activities.

This position is part of the N.A. Quality and Food Safety Organization and reports to the Sr. Manager of Food Safety.

Responsibilities:

Design and oversee microbiological challenge and validation studies conducted at 3rd party

Conduct and document data-based food safety risk assessments using technical, scientific, regulatory, and industry inputs

Conduct food safety risk assessments to ensure microbiological safety during design for product category

Interpret sensitive food safety related technical information and provide objective science-based recommendations to access deviations

Effectively communicate and liaise with quality operations and plant quality to problem solve, trouble shoot, and resolve food safety issues

Provide HACCP plan development and validation support

Develop, train, and support execution of food safety programs, controls, processes, and McCain policies in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements

Participate with relevant industry, peer, and regulatory groups to remain current in evolving food safety landscape and practices

Note: Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed to meet overall McCain food safety goals and objectives.

Skills:

Ability to develop statistically designed experiments to validate food safety controls

Experience with microbiology laboratory techniques and test methods

Experience or proven ability to apply science based technical knowledge to critical food safety programs (e.g. RTE CCP and preventative control validations, NRTE cook validations, etc.)

Proficient in problem solving techniques

Organizational Skills including planning, scheduling, and coordinating teams and activities to completion

Ability to work and interact effectively with all levels in the organization including Plant employees, Peers, and Sr. Management

Strong communication, report writing and presentation skills

Education & Experience:

B.S. in Microbiology, biology or closely or related discipline with 5 years relevant experience.

M.S. with minimum 3 years relevant experience or Ph.D. with minimum 1year relevant experience
