Company Introduction: T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada's largest Asian supermarket chain with 33 stores across the country: 14 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 11 in Ontario, and 1 in Quebec. The Company's continuous expansion is going to bring more new stores in the next couple of years.



The Role: Reporting to the Manager of Food Safety and Quality Assurance, the specialist oversees regional food processing centers and develops, implements, and enforces comprehensive food safety protocols that align with regulatory requirements and support business objectives. This role will include conducting audits, inspections, and training, investigating food safety incidents, analyzing data, collaborating with other departments, and staying updated on industry standards. Additionally, the specialist will support the establishment and maintenance of positive relationships with other departments throughout the organization, regulatory authorities, customers, and other external contacts.



• Major Responsibilities: Develop, maintain, and implement food safety and quality management programs, including HACCP, pre-requisite programs, SQF, and others.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
• Conduct food safety audits and inspections to identify and address non-conformances.
• Develop and deliver food safety training programs to employees.
• Monitor and analyze food safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Stay updated on food safety regulations, customer requirements, and SQF code.
• Liaise with government inspection officials to address regulatory changes and provide input.
• Conduct food safety and quality assurance duties on the processing floor.
• Participate in new product development and evaluation.
• Provide technical support in the New Product Development process, and provide guidance on improvement opportunities.
• Review product and raw material labels, calculate nutrition facts, and create accurate product labels using Genesis software.
• Conduct microbiological and chemical analysis, sampling, and report interpretation.
• Investigate and address food safety and quality-related complaints.
• Manage the hold and release program for non-conforming products.
• Develop and maintain product specifications and formulations.
• Report incidents, accidents, and near misses.
• Assist with FDA, USDA registration, exporter license applications, and US label development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.


• Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in food safety quality assurance, preferably in the food manufacturing or in CFIA and/or OMAFRA facility
• Certification in food safety programs like HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), SQF practitioner or PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) is a plus.
• Sound knowledge of both Federal and Provincial food regulatory requirements for the production and labelling of food production.
• Knowledge of food processing techniques and equipment.
• Ability to conduct audits, inspections, and investigations to identify and address food safety risks.
• Must demonstrate sound ability to communicate in verbal and written English
• Able to communicate in Chinese (Cantonese / Mandarin) is an asset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with team members, management, and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Proven time management skills, detail oriented, works well under pressure.
• Strong drive to deliver results to clients on a timely basis.
• Able to efficiently make decisions and resolve problems.
• Must be highly organized and flexible to changing priorities.
• Proficiency in computer software for data analysis and reporting.
• Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
• Flexible to work on irregular working schedule including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays when needed.
• Requires some domestic and international travel, with flexibility to accommodate varying schedules
Possess intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft applications.


Shift

• 5 day work week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm)
