VMA offers an Early Years program for Toddler and Pre-Kindergarten students (18 months-4 years) that operates year-round, as well as a Private School for Kindergarten-Grade 6 students. Our programs are run at two Campuses (68 Daisy Ave and 432 Horner Ave), both conveniently located in South Etobicoke.
The Role
We are seeking a reliable and organized
Food Handler
. The Food Handler plays a vital role in the daily operations of our program by ensuring students receive nutritious meals and snacks in a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
In this position, you will be responsible for preparing and delivering hot lunches and two daily snacks to approximately 100 students across 7 classrooms. You will manage the safe handling and storage of food delivered by our catering company, maintain accurate records of substitutions and dietary accommodations, and ensure the kitchen is kept clean, organized, and compliant with all health and safety standards.
The Food Handler is an integral member of our team, supporting the health and well-being of students by providing them with quality meals, while collaborating with teaching staff to meet classroom schedules and individual dietary needs. This position requires excellent time management skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to food safety and cleanliness.
What You'll Do
Prepare, portion, and deliver hot lunches and two daily snacks to classrooms
Ensure food is handled, stored, and served in accordance with public health and licensing regulations
Track and record all food substitutions, allergies, and serving temperatures as required
Wash dishes, sanitize surfaces, and manage kitchen equipment with care
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment at all times
Monitor food supplies, report shortages, and assist with ordering as needed
Advise the Supervisor of pertinent information concerning the food deliveries and kitchen
Advocate for the policies, procedures, and philosophy of VMA and support our mission, vision, and values
Assist in the Early Years classrooms as needed
What You'll Need
Valid Food Handler Certification
A minimum of 1 year of experience in food preparation, catering, or child care food service
Ability to work independently with excellent time management and organizational skills
Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
Attention to detail in following allergy and dietary instructions
Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift, and carry up to 40lb
Positive, professional attitude and commitment to working in a child-focused environment
Excellent English language communication skills, both written and verbal
Current and clear Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months from your start date, or willing to receive one
Standard First Aid/CPR C certification, or willing to obtain one
Able to legally work in Canada
