About Us

The (OFM) is dedicated to safeguarding fire and building safety. Our core functions encompass developing essential policies and programs to uphold and enforce fire safety principles. We actively advise multiple levels of government on matters pertaining to fire protection, working closely with fire service partners throughout the province.

With a team of approximately 20 skilled professionals, our primary focus lies in supporting provincial and municipal partners in their efforts to achieve stringent building and fire safety standards.

About Our Opportunity

Are you passionate about fire safety and ready to take on a crucial role in coordinating and managing vital programs within the field?

We are seeking a dedicated Fire Services Coordinator to join our team and oversee a range of essential initiatives. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in managing Federal and Provincial Award programs, local assistant training/verification, and fostering effective communications with the Fire Service. Additionally, as the senior administrative professional in our office, you will provide indispensable support by delivering accurate, comprehensive, and confidential administrative and office management functions to key personnel, including the Fire Marshal, Assistant Fire Marshal, Manager of Corporate Policy, and the Office of the Fire Marshal.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Fire Services Coordinator, you play a vital role in supporting the division\'s mandate and programs. Using your expertise, you will streamline day-to-day administrative tasks and ensure seamless office continuity. Furthermore, by demonstrating initiative, sound judgment, and comprehensive knowledge of the Fire Safety Act, the Building Code Act, and the Office of the Fire Marshal\'s operations, you\'ll offer guidance to clients regarding inspection requirements related to various provincial acts, such as Alcohol and Gaming, Education, and Homes for Special Care. Additionally, you will actively support the fire service, the general public, other government departments, and officials in addressing inspection requests, inquiries, and information needs, facilitating the resolution of relevant issues.

Qualifications and Experience

You have five (5) years of related experience in a coordination, administrative environment. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.

Essential qualities of yours include:

  • Proficiency in typing, spreadsheet software, word processing, and email applications
  • Strong coordination, planning, and organization skills with experience record-keeping and bookkeeping.
  • Analytical skills along with clear and concise communication abilities
  • Ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with a high standard for client and customer service
Though not required, it is considered an asset if you have:
  • Knowledge of the Fire Safety Act, Building Code Act, and related regulations and policies
  • Working knowledge of databases
  • Familiarity with STAR/STOR
  • Knowledge of Government structure and public agencies, and FOIPOP
  • Experience with records management systems, SAP, and/or, awards processes
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

  • A completed related bachelor\'s degree and one (1) year of experience
  • A completed related 2-year diploma and three (3) years of experience

Working Conditions

Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting. You may occasionally be required to move/lift light objects such as office supplies, equipment, and files. You will have daily contact with the public, various Government Departments as well as other local Agencies and Institutions.

Pay Grade: CL 22

Salary Range: $1,924.59 - $2,128.70 Bi-Weekly
