We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented
Financial Controller
to oversee and manage the financial operations of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance, with a strong understanding of both nonprofit and governmental accounting standards. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate financial management, compliance with applicable regulations, and strategic financial planning to support organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Develop and maintain financial models to analyze the profitability of product lines, plant operations, and overall company performance.
Provide variance analysis and financial insights to management to support operational decision making.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Cost Control
Lead development of annual budgets and financial forecasts for plant operations, capital expenditures, and corporate objectives.
Monitor and analyze variances between actual and budgeted results, recommending corrective actions when necessary.
Oversee cost accounting functions, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.
Cost Accounting and Inventory Management
Ensure accurate tracking of raw material costs, production labour, and overhead allocations to ensure accurate product costing.
Implement and maintain effective cost control measures to minimize waste and enhance profitability.
. Conduct regular inventory reconciliations and cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory reporting.
Compliance and inventory controls
Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations, including tax filings, payroll reporting, and WSIB requirements.
Develop and enforce internal controls and safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data and reduce risks.
Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory authorities during audits and compliance reviews.
Cash Flow and Working Capital Management
Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring efficient liquidity to meet operational and strategic needs.
Develop strategies to optimize working capital by managing accounts payable, receivable, and inventory.
Prepare and present cash flow forecasts and financial projections to senior management.
Manage relationships with banks, financial institutions, and external auditors.
ERP System Oversight and Process
Improvement
Manage and enhance the use of ERP systems to ensure accurate financial reporting and seamless integration with operational processes.
Identify and implement improvements in financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Ensure timely and accurate data entry, reporting, and reconciliation of financial transactions.
Team and Leadership Development
Supervise and monitor finance team members, ensuring professional growth and development.
Set performance objectives, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
Foster a culture of accountability within the finance department.
Provide leadership in improving processes and systems to enhance efficiency of the finance department.
Strategic Financial Support
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and business growth initiatives.
Analyze investment opportunities, capital projects, and expansion plans to assess financial viability and risks.
Assist in the evaluation of pricing strategies and customer profitability analysis.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA designation in good standing with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario required.
Knowledge and Experience
Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior finance role.
Strong understanding of financial management in a high-volume fast-paced agriculture/food processing environment preferred.
Knowledge of food process manufacturing cost structures, raw material costing, and inventory management are also considered an asset.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards, including GAAP and IFRS.
Proficiency in ERP systems, preferably with experience in manufacturing models.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other financial modeling tools
Experience with cost accounting principles and inventory management systems.
Proven ability to mentor and develop a high-performing finance team.
Strong ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
Demonstrated ability to align financial goals with business objectives and provide long-term value to the organization.
Familiarity with food safety standards, HACCP, and traceability systems is an asset.

Pay: $80,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
