Established in 1859, the Department of Chemistry is one of the leading institutions of its kind in Canada \xe2\x80\x93 featuring teaching excellence, advanced research facilities and development of distinguished scientists in the past and for the future. Our department has a wide variety of services including chemical stores, NMR lab, X-ray analysis lab and a mass spectrometry lab. This position reports directly to the Manager of Finance and HR Administration and is responsible for providing financial assistant to the department.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Applying the generally accepted accounting principles to all financial tasks
  • Processing accounts payable/receivable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
  • Reconciling accounts
  • Generating standard financial reports
  • Processing expense reimbursements
  • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of information
  • Liaising with internal contacts to resolve accounting, payroll and/or HRIS processing issues
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
Essential Qualifications:
  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of recent and relevant financial administration and administrative support experience, including experience administrating purchasing activities, experience administrating payroll, AR and AP, and experience with FIS and HRIS, in an University department environment.
  • Experience working with the University of Toronto\'s Guide to Financial Management (GTFM), including its financial and procurement processes
  • Experience processing expense reimbursement
  • Experience with all aspects of the Financial Information System (FIS), and HRIS modules of AMS
  • Experience compiling, sorting and organizing financial data; Experience administering databases and generating reports.
  • Experience posting and processing financial transactions related to accounts receivables, account payables, and reconciling accounts
  • Experience in processing non-appointed payroll, including casual pay, stipends and honoraria
  • Advanced skills with FIS, HRIS, or related systems.
  • Highly-developed computer skills including advanced proficiency with MS Office (Excel,Word, Access, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational and time-management skills.

USW Pay Band 09 -- $60,006 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $76,739. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
