About the Role We are looking for a driven and experienced analyst to join our team. The Financial Analyst will report to our Financial Controller, but will also work closely with other members across all departments. In addition to supporting various accounting and reporting functions, this position will perform various types of analysis, and will play a pivotal role in the procurement of many goods and services required before the launch of the Hullo service. The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives performing a variety of tasks, and is able to adapt to quickly changing priorities. For candidates pursuing a CPA designation, this role provides the opportunity to obtain relevant practical experience, and to work with a designated CPA who can provide mentorship and support as you progress through the CPA program. - Free standby ferry travel for you and your family between Nanaimo and Vancouver Responsibilities - Assist the Financial Controller with all accounting functions, including bank and credit card reconciliations, payroll, monthly accruals, and financial reporting
- Lead the accounts payable process, including recording vendor bills, reconciling to vendor statements, and preparing summaries for vendor payments
- Preparing regular internal reports
- Analyzing the effectiveness and profitability of various processes and procedures
- Review and analyze the costs for all business activities in order to find efficiencies
- Assist the controller in the preparation of year-end documents for the external auditors and in responding to audit inquiries
- Preparing cheques and deposits
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets
- Work with the controller to perform monthly closing procedures
- Record credit card payments and employee expense reimbursements
- Work with our operations team to assist with the procurement of goods and services
- Support other office staff with procurement needs and various ad hoc tasks as needed Responsibilities - At least one year working in an accounting-related role
- While not required, preference will be given to candidates who:
- have, or are working towards, a CPA designation? and/or,
- have experience running payroll
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to think analytically and to solve problems
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- An interest and ability to work in a start-up culture
