About this opportunity:

We are looking for an adaptive and collaborative individual interested in gaining upstream financial and operational experience by joining the Conventional Operations Finance team! Reporting to the Manager, Conventional Operations Finance, you will be accountable for important and critical financial responsibilities to support the Conventional Operations Business Unit as well as function as liaison on corporate processes with a variety of groups.

The Financial Analyst will assist the Conventional Operations Finance team with monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, with a specific focus on completing the property taxes, orphan well levy and other regulatory costs, inventory, and Greenhouse Gas journal entries and reporting. This role will also support our overall compliance with SOX processes and controls by completing monthly reconciliations of key balance sheet accounts, and segment note disclosures to our monthly management performance reporting.

Over time, this role will also be relied upon to identify business practice and improvement opportunities, including improving the financial reports provided to the Conventional business unit stakeholders, as well as, investigating the potential for metric dashboard reporting.

Responsibilities:
  • Monthly property tax, orphan well levy, regulatory fee, and greenhouse gas accrual journal entries and reconciling the amounts to the annual invoices when received.
  • Monthly inventory and material transfer journal entries and reporting.
  • Monthly, quarterly, and YTD/annual budget and forecast variance commentary for various operating expense metrics.
  • Ensure timely payment of orphan well and regulatory fee invoices.
  • Monthly, quarterly, and YTD/Annual reconciliation of financial statement segment disclosures with performance management results.
  • Support overall compliance with SOX processes and controls
  • Monthly reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts.
  • Act as liaison between operational and finance functions to help provide financial and accounting support and guidance.
  • Support the preparation and submission of the Conventional business unit budgets and forecasts.
  • Investigate and analyze disputed/audit charges from joint venture partners.
  • Supporting long-range planning, acquisitions, and new initiatives.
  • Identify business practice and operational improvement opportunities.
  • Provide vacation coverage for other analysts on the Conventional Operations Finance team.
Qualifications:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Completed a university degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 3+ years relevant accounting/reporting experience
  • Oil and Gas accounting/reporting experience would be an asset
  • Validated analytical skills and a continuous improvement approach with the ability to communicate complex information into meaningful insights
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficient in SAP and other reporting systems would be an asset
  • Confirmed business and financial competence
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced work environment with dynamically shifting priorities and timelines
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
