This position is responsible for assisting students in all phases of the financial aid application process. Provides routine financial counselling, makes recommendations, processes requests and provides reception and filing support.
Job Duties/Responsibilities

1. Processes student requests for financial assistance for Adult Upgrading Grant (AUG), enrollment confirmations, Student Employment confirmations, bursaries and other forms of student financial assistance. Assists students with reassessments and appeals for StudentAIDBC and AUG programs.
2. Provides routine financial counselling and information sessions, interviews students to determine the nature of their financial aid requirements, advises with respect to types of financial aid available according to student\'s circumstances and refers unusual or complex problems to appropriate personnel.
3. Advises Ministry and other personnel of any changes in students\' status, (eg. withdrawals and MIRs) by updating the Ministry\'s SFAS system.
4. Receives cheques and records a variety of applications for financial assistance from both the Ministry and outside donors, maintains necessary records of financial transactions and arranges timely disbursement of funds in the form of electronic documents and cheques.
5. Conducts monthly reconciliation of AUG reports.
6. Provides accurate information and assistance over the telephone and in person to students on a wide range of financial assistance, including StudentAidBC.
7. Ensures collection of deferred fees and outstanding payments to the College through Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment, loan documents and other forms of financial aid.
8. Reconciles accounts for bursaries, scholarships and emergency loans.
9. Performs daily reception duties and filing.
10. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
- Grade 12 including computer courses plus additional specialized training of 1 year in basic accounting, interviewing skills and communication skills and years\' related experience in a financial aid or student services related area or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.

Skills and Abilities
- Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, faculty, staff, students and the public.
- Ability to analyze and provide information and assistance to students and staff in a pleasant and helpful manner and function calmly, pleasantly and tactfully during periods of high stress.
- Ability to analyze and explain various student financial assistance programs and needs assessments.
- Sound knowledge of current office practices and procedures, record keeping and financial budgeting practices.
- Sound knowledge of the procedures and rules governing AUG, StudentAidBC, bursaries, scholarships, Canada Study grants, awards and other student financial assistance.
- Intermediate level data entry and computer proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE

PAYGRADE 20 - $1,747.66 - $2,035.55 paid bi-weekly
