Job Description

Job Summary:






The Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of the organization's financial operations. This position leads full-cycle accounting, prepares financial statements and compliance reports, and provides detailed financial analysis to support informed decision-making across the organization. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Financial Accountant works collaboratively with Property Management, Real Estate, and Operations teams to support sound financial management, operational planning, and strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities




Financial Reporting




Working with other accountants to prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Conduct financial analysis and variance reporting to support leadership decisions. Prepare compliance and covenant reports for CMHC, lenders, and regulatory bodies. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial systems and records.

Budgeting & Forecasting




Coordinate the development and monitoring of annual operating and capital budgets. Prepare detailed financial forecasts and cash flow projections to support business planning. Provide budget-to-actual reporting and analysis for internal stakeholders. Support the preparation of real property and project-specific budgets in collaboration with departmental leaders.

Audit, Compliance & Risk Management




Prepare year-end working papers and manage audit deliverables. Ensure compliance with CRA, CMHC, and corporate filing requirements. Maintain strong internal controls and recommend improvements to accounting policies and procedures. Monitor financial compliance related to funding, lending, and regulatory obligations.



Continuous Improvement & Policy Development




Track and analyze key financial indicators such as debt servicing, property performance, and operational efficiency. Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and reports for the COO and senior leadership team. Support long-term financial planning through data-driven recommendations.



Qualifications



Education




Bachelor's degree: Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.



Experience




Minimum 3 years of full-cycle accounting. Experience in property management is preferable. Strong understanding of audit processes and financial statement preparation.



Skills & Competencies




Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), internal controls, and financial reporting. Proficiency in Excel and Power
BI.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communicator with the ability to translate financial data for non-financial stakeholders. Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines independently. * Collaborative and team-oriented with a commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
