The Finance Manager is responsible for providing financial management controls and accounting services for Alexander Social Development and its entities in accordance with the Alexander Social Development finance policy and the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Finance Manager contributes to the overall success of Social Development by effectively managing all financial tasks, overseeing budgeting and accounting.
Position Duties:
- Provide direct supervision of assigned staff
- Be actively involved with short and long-range financial planning for Social Development
- Receive and monitor bank statements from the financial institution/bank
- Document and record all incoming accounts receivable and payable
- Ensure financial policy and procedures are adhered to
- Attend meetings as required and requested by the Social Development Director
- Acts as the official representative of the Social Development in the preparation of Social Development.
- Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash
- Assists and directs finance staff with appropriate practices and methods in ensuring compliance with the audit requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision and leadership to assigned finance staff
- Oversee short- and long-term financial planning in alignment with organizational priorities
- Monitor and reconcile monthly bank statements
- Manage and document all accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions
- Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
- Represent the department in financial discussions, reports, and audits as required
- Develop and maintain accounting systems for:
- Cash flow and cash management
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Credit control and petty cash
- Support audit readiness by guiding staff and maintaining proper financial documentation
- Attend internal and external meetings as directed by the Director
Qualifications:
- Education - CPA or 5 plus years' experience in First Nation Finance Management
- Specialized knowledge - ACCPAC Program, Excel programming, Microsoft software and any other relevant financial software programs
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations on organizational financial issues
- Skills - presentation skills, negotiation skills, financial management planning skills, training skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Other characteristics - familiar and known to First Nations customs, practices and values
