Position Overview
The City of Kamloops has a temporary, full-time opportunity for a Finance Coordinator \xe2\x80\x93 Training Opportunity with the Financial Services team. The work is thought-provoking, interesting, and diverse. As the Finance Coordinator \xe2\x80\x93 Training Opportunity, your primary duties will be leading the Accounts Payable processing cycle and providing financial analysis to the Finance Team. This is a leadership role where you provide direction, coaching and training to our team members. In addition, you will provide guidance in the training and troubleshooting of accounting software systems. This integral team role requires good time management, analytical and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:
  • Eligibility to enrol in the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) program (which requires an undergraduate degree with specific subject area OR minimum 6 years of relevant experience in any of the CPA competency areas).
  • Minimum three years\xe2\x80\x99 previous accounting experience that includes ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and working with electronic applications and software programs.
  • Minimum one year of previous experience supervising staff.


For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check. A comprehensive benefits package is included with this position. This is a CUPE local 900 position.

Please note, shortlisted candidates will be required to complete clerical testing on intermediate Word and intermediate Excel (70% pass rate required).

Note that this is a temporary position until approximately July 2, 2024 or upon the return of the incumbent.

This position may or may not be filled based on the outcome of our Finance Coordinator 1174 (Temporary, Full Time) and Finance Technician 1176 (Temporary, Full-Time) postings.

Awarding of Training Opportunity:
To be successful for this training opportunity, senior applicants must meet the above requirements. Applicants are able to participate in a maximum of three training opportunities within the Department.

On-the-Job Experience and Training:
The most senior qualified candidate for this opportunity will be gaining experience towards becoming a fully qualified Finance Coordinator. The exact length of the training opportunity may vary based on the previous experience of the successful candidate; however, for this training opportunity it will be up to 18 months.

Pay Rate:
The successful applicant for this training opportunity will receive the pay rate of Pay Grade 12 (inside),
$42.62 per hour to start. After successful completion of the Training Opportunity term, the incumbent will move to a fully qualified Finance Coordinator Grade 13 (inside).

Time Commitment to the Position:
The successful candidate will be required to remain in the Archivist position for a minimum of the amount of time it took the candidate to become fully qualified.

Hourly Rate
$42.62 Hours & Days of Work Monday to Friday:
8:30 AM \xe2\x80\x93 4:30 PM (winter)
8:00 AM \xe2\x80\x93 4:00 PM (summer)

This position will be eligible for a modified schedule (one extra day off every third week).
