About Our Opportunity



The Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency requires a Finance Clerk to provide administrative support related to over $35M in funding for a variety of programming.

This position reports to Manager, Special Initiatives.


Primary Accountabilities



Responsibilities as the Finance Clerk include:
  • Review and verify all documents submitted by the department/program prior to processing to ensure they conform to governmental and departmental policy. Ensures all invoices are submitted, have proper back-up documentation, authorization, vendor and tax coding, and cost centre/order numbers are assigned properly.
  • Ensure accurate and timely accounting of accounts payable and their related recoveries and revenues. The Clerk is also responsible for ensuring the timely collection of outstanding accounts receivables.
  • Set up accounts receivable customer vendors in the verifies customer contact information for accuracy.
  • Prepare accounts receivable invoices (verifies revenue, fee, recover, and HST/GST general ledger account codes/amounts and cost centre for accuracy and resolves discrepancies).
  • On a monthly basis, reconciles various cost centres and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Respond to vendor and staff inquiries in a timely manner with regard to the payment of claims and invoices. Provides financial information for assigned clients in adherence with departmental policies and accounting procedures. Resolves payment disputes between client departments and other government agencies.


Qualifications and Experience



To be successful in this role you have a one-year business or office administration course with a minimum of (3) years experience of administrative support. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.
  • Knowledge of and experience with computers and general office software (Microsoft Office \xe2\x80\x93 Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Accounts Payable
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in general office protocol, practices and/or procedures; correspondence and document management
  • Experience in responding to inquiries from internal and/or external clients


Although not required, the following would be considered an asset:
  • Previous experience in finance and/or accounting related to business and/or government operations

Pay Grade: CL 18 Salary Range: $1,675.62 - $1,874.80 Bi-Weekly
