The Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq (The CMM) is a Tribal Council representing eight, Mi'kmaq communities of mainland NS. Our mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi'kmaq communities' initiatives towards self-determination and enhancement of community. The CMM main office is in the Millbrook Mi'kmaw Community in Nova Scotia and has over 190 Employees. The CMM's Department of Finance & Administration (DFA) is currently looking for an energetic, mature, and independent candidates to fill the position of:

Finance Clerk - Accounts Receivable.

Position Overview



Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, and reporting to the Financial Services Manager (Controller), the Finance Clerk is responsible for the day-to-day financials of CMM department and assigned projects and affiliates. This includes providing financial, administrative and clerical services to ensure effective, efficient and accurate financial and administrative operations.

Overview of General Responsibilities:



Provide financial, administrative, and clerical services for assigned projects and business areas.

Process payments and expenditures and monitoring receipts and revenues for assigned projects and business areas.

Ensure finances are accurate, and payments, including salaries and vendors, are paid on time.

Comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial and all CMM policies and procedures.

Receive and verify invoices and transactions and ensure compliance with financial policies.

Process direct deposits and cheques and make bank runs if necessary.

Maintain the filing system for all the financial documentation.

Provide annual reports to auditors.

Address requests from Operational managers regarding financial transactions.

Manage daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual processes and reports.

Creation of GL accounts and projects and processing budgets, as per Contract agreement and/or funding correspondence for the assigned department/ project.

Reconcile and update accounts receivables and payables.

Maintain all required files associated with the assigned department / project including equipment acquisitions, disposals, etc.

Process and verify payments of travel claims while also ensuring compliance with policies (i.e. authorizations and approvals).

Reconcile and Process visa expenses for departments and projects, based on the requirements of that department / project manager and Contractual Agreement.

Provide backup to the other financial clerks and Finance and Administration staff, when required.

Position Requirements:



Bachelor's degree or Diploma in a related field, such as office administration, accounting.

Ideally A minimum of two-years of direct experience in working with office administration and financial processes and procedures.

Experience in working with accounting software such as SAGE.

Ability to manage multiple lines of business, including the balance of working with the needs and requirements of many stakeholders.

Strong work ethic and ability to work in an environment requiring discretion and confidentiality.

Ability to think analytically and critically while problem solving to identify specific needs and potential solutions.

Ability to work effectively with other departments, levels of government, industry and the public.

Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.

Ability to manage time and various activities effectively and efficiently while providing quality customer service.

Experience working in or with First Nation communities considered an asset.

There is an occasional requirement to work outside of normal working hours due to job requirements (ex: during audit).

Travel within Nova Scotia may be required, as such, a valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required.

Successfully completed Criminal record check.

Salary/Employment Term: $40,628 to $46,750 per year based on qualifications and experience. This is a permanent contract (pending one-year probationary contract).
