Job Description

FIJ Law LLP is a Richmond Hill based law firm, delivering legal services in various areas including commercial litigation focusing on debt enforcement, and mortgage remedies. While providing high-quality legal services, we maintain a professional, but relaxed and congenial environment.

We have an opening for a Junior Law Clerk to join our Civil and Commercial Litigation practice, primarily supporting 5 lawyers and a Senior Litigation Clerk. We are looking for an individual with positive energy, who is keen to learn, and dedicated to providing efficient, high-quality work, in a collaborative manner. While specialized training will be provided, the ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in litigation, and will be a confident, organized, detail-orientated, self-starter that is prepared to proactively work on files with the lawyers they support.

Junior Law Clerk - Civil and Commercial Litigation

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares legal correspondence and court documents (i.e., motions, pleadings, affidavits, facta, etc.) and attends to Court filings of same
  • Maintains an efficient and organized file management system and file diarization system
  • Produces correspondence and documents both independently and from dictation
  • Processes billing and invoicing
  • Manages workflow and deadlines
  • Assists in management of lawyer's practice (i.e., opening files, arranging meetings, scheduling hearing dates, communicating with clients, etc.)
  • Communicates with clients, court personnel, and service providers
  • Performs general office and clerical duties
The successful candidate must have exceptional organizational skills and demonstrate the following:
  • A certificate/diploma in an accredited Law Clerk/Legal Administration/Paralegal Program
  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years' experience working as a Litigation Clerk or Assistant in a Commercial Litigation practice
  • Detail oriented with strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work under pressure
  • Ability to manage multiple client files and portfolios
  • Ability to work well independently as well as in a team
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Possess advanced Computer skills. Must be proficient with current litigation platforms and systems
  • Experience in mortgage enforcement/collections/debt enforcement litigation is an asset, but training will be provided
  • Familiarity with One-key, Justice Services Online and CaseLines is an asset, but training will be provided
