Position Summary
We are looking to hire an enthusiastic
Field Surveyor
to join our Survey department. This individual must have a solid construction skill set, positive attitude, and strong work ethic. Reporting to the Project Manager, Survey, the successful candidate will play a vital role in collecting and analyzing data to support our engineering and construction projects. This role conducts surveys, studies data, creates maps, and provides crucial insights to our project teams.
Primary Accountabilities
Provide drawing quantity take-offs for estimating and pre-project planning
Provide field quantity calculations to Management and Supervisory staff
Track field quantities for progress reports
GPS Site calibration and setup
Machine control setup and troubleshooting
Provide field layout
As-built surveys
Underground utility locating
General Accountabilities
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with supervisors, peers, and clients
Ability to think logically about work at hand and compare site conditions with project designs
Understand construction drawings and specifications
Detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
Other duties as assigned

Safety Responsibilities (as applicable):
Ensure overhead and underground hazards are identified
Communicate effectively with on-site employees including use of hand signals
Ensure confined space permit is signed-off, prior to commencing work activities.
Participate in daily Safety and Planning meeting with crew. Meeting will outline job hazards, daily tasks and required productions
Mandatory completed safety forms as requested by Supervisor/Management

The ability to analyze surveying challenges, offer solutions, and navigate complex issues. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
Attention to Detail:
Meticulous handling of client information and keeping accurate documentation
Negotiation Skills:
Savvy in negotiation to resolve conflicts and provide any needed information
Time Management:
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines effectively
Adaptability:
Flexibility to adapt to evolving surveying practices with industry changes and embrace new technologies or methodologies
Ethical Standards:
Upholding ethical standards, integrity, and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
Qualifications
Post-secondary degree/diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management
Relevant experience: 3 - 5 years of field surveying
Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, and lift 50 lbs
CTTAM membership is preferred
Eligibility for certification with CTTAM is considered an asset
A combination of education and experience may be considered
Working Conditions
Work in a fast-paced work environment
Able to flex working hours, including evenings and weekends to meet the demands of the role
Able to travel outside of Winnipeg for extended periods of time, when necessary
Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions

The starting wage for this role is $28.55 per hour, with potential for a higher rate based on experience/education.
