Fees and Allocation Specialist
. In this role you will provide education and ongoing support to physicians and their billing team members with respect to appropriate use of the Alberta physician Schedule of Medical Benefits. As the ideal candidate you have a thorough and detailed knowledge of the SOMBs and the interrelationships contained within. The AMA has a hybrid work environment. The successful candidate will be based out of our Calgary or Edmonton office and will have the opportunity to work from home on a regular basis but will be required to be in-person when needed. Occasional travel within Alberta required to attend meetings with physicians.
Position Overview
The Fees and Allocation Specialist will provide advice to physicians, Sections and AMA staff on the fee schedule, billing, allocations and other matters concerning physician compensation.
This role is responsible for coordinating AMA processes in support of allocations and market rate reviews in a team environment. The incumbent will also develop tools to guide physicians in appropriate billing and audit risk reduction.
Key responsibility for this role includes, but are not limited to, the following:
Supports the Physician Compensation and Economics team in providing advice and leadership to Sections on physician compensation strategies that align with section and system objectives (e.g. compensation models, fee schedule modernization, allocation, etc.)
Assists Sections in relation to SOMB changes, micro allocation and market rate reviews.
Provides advice to physicians and AMA staff on areas such as, allocation, audits, billing, SOMB, relativity, etc.
Supports the development and promotion of AMA's tools for appropriate billing and audit risk reduction.
Assists in the creation of presentations for billing education and seminars, Representative Forum and committees.
Maintains an up?to?date knowledge of Alberta's fee schedule and is actively aware of changes.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in business, health administration, or related field.
A minimum of 4 years of experience in health-related field, with preference given to individuals with Alberta Health claims' experience.
Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the Schedule of Medical Benefits.
Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to assemble complex information into understandable presentations.
Ability to develop strong, successful working relationships and partnerships with stakeholders, i.e., Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services, physician members and physician leaders.
Strong planning and organization skills with the ability to focus and prioritize.
Diverse knowledge of physician compensation models including the Schedule of Medical Benefits, Workers' Compensation, Federal Health funding, third party payments and other uninsured services.
Knowledge of claims processing and SOMB rules, regulations and legislation is required.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Ability and flexibility to manage competing and concurrent priorities and tasks effectively and work under extremely tight time frames.
Ability to work in a professional manner, displaying integrity and respect for others.

The salary for this role will be between $72,462 - 94,199 per annum.
