Everyday Micros Farm is a small urban farm growing indoors and outdoors dedicated to producing high-quality, culinary microgreens, herbs and edible flowers year-round growing for professional chefs, home cooks and health specialists in Burlington, ON. We utilize sustainable farming practices to cultivate a wide variety of microgreens, herbs and edible flowers 365 days a year even through the harsh Canadian winter.
About the role
We are a small but nimble team looking for a farmer that will help manage our current microgreens and edible flower production as well as design, grow, and optimize edible flower beds, plan site layouts, craft companion planting systems for our outdoor season and use innovative indoor growing methods to push the boundaries of sustainable farm production. This role blends hands-on cultivation with research and experimentation, it also includes developing scalable mushroom systems for summer. You'll be part of a small, experimental farm that operates with the agility of a startup always testing, learning, and growing smarter.

What you'll do:
Farm Production & Layout Design:
Plan, plant, and maintain edible flower beds with a focus on aesthetics, flavour, yield, and continuous bloom cycles. Develop companion planting layouts that enhance flavor, pest resistance, and space efficiency

Outdoor Bed Site Planning:
Assist in designing and optimizing site layout for both indoor and outdoor production zones balancing workflow, airflow, and light access.
Research & Innovation:
Conduct hands-on research and trials for new indoor growing methods, including lighting setups, substrates, and environmental controls. Explore and document methods for scalable mushroom cultivation suitable for an indoor microfarm context. Record data on growth rates, yields, and input efficiency to guide farm decisions. Stay up to date on innovations in regenerative agriculture, vertical farming, and controlled-environment systems.
Microgreens, herbs and edible Flower cultivation:
Assist in the planting, watering, and harvesting of microgreens using hydroponic and/or soil-based growing methods. Our outdoor growing in the summer will require plant bed maintenance.
Crop maintenance:
Observe and report on the health and growth of microgreens, identify and address any pest or disease issues, and ensure optimal growing conditions. Maintain high quality standards for all of our products.
Seed Sowing:
Help sow seeds in trays or mixing growing mediums according to planting schedules and production requirements.
Harvesting and packaging:
Harvest microgreens at the peak of freshness, carefully handle and package them for delivery to customers while maintaining product quality and presentation.
Cleaning and sanitization:
Support maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in the growing area, including washing trays, equipment, and work surfaces.
Follow Farm Procedures:
Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others as well as developing systems to help with team efficiency
To succeed in this role you must be able to do the following
Prepare soil into trays in a efficiently (Prepare 1 tray on average every 30 seconds)o Measure and weigh all seeds in under 1 hour for a planting session
Can wash 75 trays in an hour
Can harvest effeciently without sacrificing quality to meet the harvesting schedule set by your manager on harvest days
Be on your feet for whole shift- this is an active job
Heavy lifting of up to 50lbs

Track and show the percentage of edible flower beds producing at or above target yield and bloom rate targets set by your manager.
Track and show through analytics that the square footage efficiency and yield per square foot or per shelf has increased or meets manager set target.
oWithin 6 months, a functioning prototype with documented yields, input costs, and potential for scale for mushroom growing.
o2-3 well-documented trials per month.
oBiweekly update reports with clear takeaways.
2 or more research ideas successfully adopted into the farm's main production system each year.
Participate in content creation which includes and not limited to social media, short form and long form videos and audio clips.
Availability Needed
Your shift may be scheduled on Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, Flexible scheduling is an option pending agreement between you and your manager. Harvesting may require earlier starts due to the seasons. Schedule is subject to change to meet the needs of the farm and the season.
In the interview, you should be able to demonstrate these qualifications
Must be eligible to legally work in Canada
Employment is contingent upon a clear criminal background check
You must be able to get yourself to the farm location on time ready to work ( maximum 45 minute commuting radius to our farm)
Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Demonstrated hands-on experience (1-3 years) in intensive crop production or horticultural work.
1-3 years of hands-on farming, greenhouse, or indoor growing experience (educational, apprenticeship, or professional).
Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
Effective communication and ability to work as a team
Experience with crop planning, seed starting, transplanting, and harvest workflows.
Exposure to companion planting systems, edible flowers, or mixed cropping preferred.
Familiarity with controlled environment systems (lighting, humidity, airflow, nutrient management) an asset.
Any experience with mushroom cultivation or mycology from hobby scale to production is a strong plus.
Demonstrated ability to track and document data for trials or experiments.
