Who we are looking for:
An experienced family lawyer who is looking to develop a family law practice at our growing firm. Our goal is to find someone who can use their knowledge and experience to create a modern practice that caters to the experience of the client and maintains a positive work environment for our employees.
Ideally, we are looking for someone who is friendly, professional, creative, and adaptable. You must have strong leadership skills, and be willing to build and lead your own team. As we are still a growing firm, we are looking for someone who is not afraid to take initiative, voice their opinion, and is able to work collaboratively within a dynamic team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The lawyer's responsibilities include taking on a leadership role in the firm by establishing and growing the family law practice, including but not limited to:
Represent clients on family law issues, including: Divorce and Separation, Child Custody and Parenting, Spousal and Child Support, Property Division, Adult Interdependent Relationships, Guardianship, Alternative Dispute Resolution;
Manage and maintain an active family law caseload with minimal supervision;
Providing strategic legal guidance, attending court hearings and trails, negotiating settlements, and other legal duties as required;
Prepare witnesses and examinations for hearing and trial;
Manage employees who report directly to you;
Maintain regular client communication and timely billing practices;
Issue monthly billings to clients and A/R collections;
Drafting legal documents, conducting research, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and managing case files
Qualifications
Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized Canadian law school
Minimum 3-5 years of experience practicing in the area of family law
Strong drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage sensitive client issues with empathy and professionalism
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
Experience in wills & estates and/or real estate law is considered an asset
