Job Description




BCIT’s Automotive Department in the School of Transportation is currently seeking a regular full-time Instructor, with strong communication skills, who is committed to student motivation and achievement to instruct General Motors Product Service Training. The successful candidate’s training will primarily take place at BCIT’s Burnaby Campus with occasional visits to the General Motor’s Training Center in Langley. After this training period, the majority of the time will be spent working out of the General Motor’s Training Facility in Langley, BC with occasional time spent at the BCIT Burnaby Campus.

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties & Responsibilities:
Work assignments will include but not be limited to:

  • Teaching training courses to General Motors dealership technicians at the General Motors Product Service Training Centre in Langley, BC.
  • Short-term coverage for full-time instructor release in GM ASEP, teaching all levels of provincial apprenticeship curriculum to GM dealership apprentices.
  • Preparing and presenting classroom lectures, course delivery and assessment materials.
  • Providing practical demonstrations and working collaboratively with the GM Product Service Training, GM ASEP team and BCIT Department Heads.
  • The program curriculum includes the instruction of disassembly, inspection, overhaul, servicing and reassembly of many types of automotive assemblies, components and systems, as fitted to current General Motors vehicles.
  • Maintenance of General Motors owned equipment, including tool storage, computers and network configurations (non-BCIT).


Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • BC Trades Qualification with Inter-Provincial Red Seal in Automotive Service Technician and Ozone Depleting Substances.
  • Documented extensive and recent experience, in repair and maintenance of automobiles and light duty trucks in a GM dealership environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint: ability to manage files located on a database.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience would be an asset.
  • Documented experience working as an instructor in a post-secondary or industrial setting within a team environment is an asset.
  • Provincial Instructor Diploma or previous post-secondary instructing experience is an asset.
  • Supervisory experience an asset.

Salary Range
Salary range: $68,375 - $101,563

Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
