Purpose of Position:
To provide and maintain a safe, clean and enjoyable atmosphere in municipally owned facilities and parks including, but not limited to, the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre and other community centres.
Qualifications:
Minimum Grade 12
4th Class Stationary Engineer or Class B Refrigeration License or equivalent
Minimum Class G Drivers License
Experience in an arena environment
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge:
Organizational skills to prioritize workloads and complete necessary tasks in a timely manner.
Customer Service and communication skills to properly communicate with the public and staff members.
Physical Skill and Effort
Must be able to perform light physical duties associated with set up and take down of facilities for special functions, janitorial duties, and maintenance.
Major Responsibilities:
Resurfacing of ice on an hourly basis or as required by users and on a priority basis as required
Complete general maintenance of equipment as assigned
Performance of necessary janitorial duties as required by general usage of facility. This includes the maintenance of dressing rooms, if applicable, prior to use by different groups, lobby, bathrooms, hallways and observation areas.
Monitor the facility to ensure the security of all publicly accessible areas and ensure that there is no loitering. Ensure the facility is safeguarded against intruders when facility is not in operation, by performing a complete and thorough facility lock up and activation of alarm system
Completion of Workplace Checklist -with respect to security, opening and closing procedures, and janitorial duties ensuring that a thorough facility walkthrough and lockup is completed and the alarm system is activated as instructed when facility is not operational
Report any potentially dangerous situations, hazards, unmaintained areas, incidences or occurrences that would affect the safety of the staff or general public. Complete incident reports as required.
Ensure all deliveries are marked and accounted for and that invoices or information is turned in to the front desk for record keeping purposes
Assist visitors and the public with inquiries and direct visitors to the appropriate areas of the facility.
Maintain a presence and act as security at facilities during an alcohol related event.
Other duties as assigned.
Decision Making and Judgement:
Work is performed under the general direction of the Division Leader - Facilities and Parks and or other management representatives, with access to the municipal policies, procedures, bylaws and regulations
Interpersonal Skills:
Interpersonal skill to liaise with management and the public in a friendly and co-operative manner.
Internal
With the Division Leader to ensure timetable of work responsibilities is met.
With other staff to ensure provision of timely information and services.
External
Occasionally handle or redirect general enquiries from the public
Working Conditions:
Environment
Primarily works in the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre or as assigned.
Control over Work Schedule
40 hours per week
Shift rotation includes working full time hours between 4 am and 2 am
Will work weekends, afternoons and evenings.
