The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross\xe2\x80\x99 comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.



Based in the Red Lake area, the position is responsible for developing and leading the community, stakeholder relations and communications program to support our license to operate for the Kinross Great Bear project including exploration, project(s) and operations. This includes managing relationships, partnerships and implementing programs and communications with neighboring local and Indigenous Communities; Proactively represents the company with government and non-government agencies, including industry associations. Manages and executes the company\xe2\x80\x99s participation in community, civic and public events. Protects and promotes the company\xe2\x80\x99s reputation through strategic outreach including media and communications strategy in Ontario. Identifies, develops and implements long-term partnerships to support the Great Bear project.

Job Responsibilities



  • Develop an overall strategy for community and rightsholder/stakeholder relations that is aligned with and supports Kinross\xe2\x80\x99 global standards, programs, and meets the needs of the project and operations.
  • Develop thorough understanding of the Kinross Site Responsibility Plan (SRP) and associated standards, tools, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Identify all key stakeholders. Develop and foster relationships with relevant rights holders and stakeholders in the area.
  • In coordination with Corporate Community Relations and ESG, identify and develop strategic partnerships which support the project\xe2\x80\x99s license to operate (e.g., in key areas of people development and environment)
  • Support the strategy for, and development of, collaboration agreements with local First Nation communities, through cross-functional internal engagement and alignment. Lead the implementation of these collaboration agreements.
  • Develop, implement and manage the Great Bear Project SRP in support with the site\xe2\x80\x99s business plan and in coordination with the company\xe2\x80\x99s corporate objectives while achieving regular audit success.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies, policies, procedures and agreements that are aligned with site and corporate community and government relations frameworks.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Government Relations functions to achieve and maintain familiarity with all governmental and regulatory issues that may impact the business, as well as any potential engagements in the local area. Stay abreast of current and relevant legislation.
  • In coordination with the Corporate Communications team, manage external communications for the Kinross Great Bear project; develop and maintain media and stakeholder contact information list and communicate with these groups in coordination with the company\xe2\x80\x99s Corporate Communications and Investor Relations departments in Toronto.
  • Work with the Corporate Communications department to develop communication and promotional materials for local community, employees and rightsholders/stakeholders.
  • Work with the Corporate Communications department to develop key messages and manage potential issues and crisis events and be the site spokesperson in emergency response.
  • Stay abreast of local and/or project development issues that may have reputational impacts for Company and project.
  • Develop, manage and coordinate community involvement, special events and outreach programs for Great Bear including any associated projects and exploration.
  • Participate as a member of the site management team. Communicate stakeholder priorities and concerns as part of management discussions and planning, and ensure an understanding of potential impacts of any decisions on key stakeholders. Understand operational and project priorities to help guide stakeholder management efforts.
  • Prepare and submit all necessary site and corporate reports as required under reporting schedules
  • Attend conventions, conferences, meetings and travel throughout the region as required.
  • Maintain leadership capacity involvement in professional and community organizations to maintain regular contact with community and industry leaders. Participate on various boards/committees, as required.
  • Ensure timely and comprehensive records are kept of external engagements, particularly with First Nations communities during permitting process.


Education and Experience



A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in social sciences, CSR management, environment, psychology, business or relevant field. A minimum 8 years of relevant experience; previous career accomplishments in a similar role are preferred. Experience in the mining industry, or other extractive industries are desirable, especially if in Northern Ontario.
Working Conditions:
This position is located in Red Lake, ON. In this role, you will work a 5X2 schedule.
