Job Description


Executive DirectorVancouver, BCOur client is a non-profit association offering comprehensive police-based victim services across British Columbia. Due to succession planning, they are looking for a new Executive Director to administer the implementation of the association\'s services, assigned priorities and policies, and strategic planning, while supporting the creation of an organizational vision and managing all staff and volunteer. The Executive Director will provide leadership, work in collaboration with community agencies and groups, facilitate research, planning and development of programs and services, and perform financial management.A candidate based in the Greater Vancouver Area/Lower Mainland would be ideal. However, our client would also consider candidates based in any of the major cities of British Columbia. The ideal candidate will also work on a full-time basis but our client is also open to a part-time arrangement.Responsibilities:

  • Directs the day-to-day operation of the association
  • Prepares procedural statements for board policies and sets organizational goals and outcomes under the direction of the board
  • Hires, trains, delegates, supervises, evaluates and releases staff and volunteers
  • Develops a succession plan
  • Attends all board meetings, in an ex officio capacity and is invited to all committee meetings
  • Provides regular, reliable reports on the progress of the association to the Board and funders
  • Conducts both an internal and external environmental scan to identify emerging issues that affect the organization
  • Researches, plans, develops and implements programs and services, and identifies the required resources to achieve the goals
  • Communicates with key stakeholders to identify the changing needs and conditions/trends for victim services and considers plans to address these changes
  • Maintains sound bookkeeping procedures, develops budgets for operating, symposium, special events and proposals, as well as administers the funds within the board approved budget
  • Provides the board with regular statements of assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses and ensures forecasts for expenditure accurately reflect planned expenditures
  • Identifies and evaluates risks and opportunities and assesses risks to financial security and growth
  • Promotes community/stakeholder awareness of company\'s mission and aims and participates in networking events
  • Identifies and seeks funding/public speaking opportunities
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor\'s degree in a human-services-related program, criminal justice or a business program or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master\'s degree preferred
  • 5+ years senior non-profit management experience including board support
  • 5+ years developing and managing communication strategies as well as managing the web presence and social media
  • 5+ years hands on experience with grant and contribution application, budget preparation and management, financial and program/project reporting and analysis and decision-making including liaising with funders and accountants
  • Experience working or partnering with diverse public and private organizations at a local, provincial and national level
  • Experience hiring, managing, evaluating staff and volunteers and procuring, managing and evaluating contracted services
  • Experience developing, documenting and interpreting program policies and procedures including human resource, occupational safety and health and financial management
  • Experience developing and/or procuring education and training curriculum and managing events
  • Experience performing environment scans and identifying factors impacting services
  • Preference for experience working in a police-based victim service; alternatives considered include experience working in a community-based victim service or related human services or criminal justice field would be considered a preference over those without that experience
  • A Criminal Record Check is required. A RCMP Enhanced Security Screening is required
  • Employment verification and previous/most recent supervisor reference check are required
  • A valid BC driver\'s license and vehicle are required, and the successful candidate must be prepared to travel province-wide
  • Strong organizational skills, delegation, program development and facilitation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong public speaking and presentation ability
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (excel, word, outlook), Adobe, membership management tools, communication tools (website management, social media, distribution lists and stakeholder engagement/interaction)
  • Ability to develop a thorough knowledge of laws and policies affecting the safety and well-being of victims of crime and trauma
