It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.



The Executive Director (ED) at Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) plays a critical role in managing the organization, driving its strategic direction, and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders. The ED's responsibilities include overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of TI, as well as fundraising, marketing, and community outreach efforts. They provide strategic and operational guidance to TI staff and programs, ensuring a cohesive and productive work environment. Additionally, the ED is responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders, including the Inuit community, government representatives, and other groups. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), the ED ensures that TI's operations align with Inuit values and priorities, ultimately supporting and empowering the Inuit community.



Job Responsibilities include:



Board Collaboration

Responsible for leading TI in a manner that adheres to and achieves the organization's mission, as defined by the Board. Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board, providing them with all the necessary information in a timely and accurate manner including sharing updates, reports, and any relevant data that will enable the Board to make informed decisions. Supporting and enabling the Board's decision-making process. Prepare briefing notes, financial reports, and minutes of Board meetings to facilitate informed discussions and decisions. Responsible for preparing complex correspondence, reports, submissions, and significant presentations. Responsible for keeping the Board of Directors informed about major program and policy decisions, fundraising initiatives, and the organization's visibility. Responsible to review and approve contracts for any services rendered by the organization. Ensures that all contractual agreements align with the governance direction set by the Board, enhancing accountability and risk management.

Financial Performance and Sustainability

Responsible for ensuring adequate program funding and fundraising. This includes identifying and pursuing opportunities for funding, such as grants, sponsorships, and partnerships. Develop fundraising strategies to augment program funding and generate additional revenue streams to support TI's activities. Responsible for maintaining fiscal integrity and reporting. This involves preparing and submitting an annual budget to the Board of Directors, providing a comprehensive financial plan for the organization. Prepare and present to the Finance Committee financial statements that accurately reflect TI's financial condition. Responsible for effective fiscal management. This involves monitoring expenses, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and maintaining a positive financial position for the organization. Work closely with the finance team to develop financial strategies, implement cost-saving measures, and seek opportunities for revenue growth.

Organization Mission and Strategy

Responsible for developing and executing organizational goals and objectives that align with TI's strategic direction. Responsible for overseeing the planning, funding, implementation, and evaluation of programs. Responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of TI's programs. This involves providing guidance and support to program managers and staff, monitoring progress, and addressing any challenges that may arise. Lead strategic planning efforts to ensure that TI can successfully fulfill its mission in the long term. This includes analyzing internal and external factors, identifying opportunities and risks, and developing strategies to adapt and grow in a changing landscape. Actively involved in enhancing TI's organizational prominence by being visible and engaged in the community. This includes collaborating with other professional, civic, and private organizations to build partnerships and leverage resources for the benefit of TI and the Inuit community.

Organization Operations

Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent and qualified staff. Responsible for ensuring the effective administration of TI's operations. Develop and implement administrative policies and procedures that streamline operations and promote efficiency. Oversee the TI leadership team and maintain a positive, safe, and ethical work environment. Promote employee engagement and satisfaction, which in turn contributes to the organization's overall success. Responsible for providing personal coaching and professional support to the leadership team. Responsible for ensuring that TI's administrative policies and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented in a fair and consistent manner. Responsible for informing the Board of any governance issues that may arise from organizational policy and/or procedure changes, ensuring alignment with new legislation, good governance practices, and management practices.

Relationship Building

Serve as TI's primary spokesperson to the organization's constituents, funders, media, and the public. Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with various organizations. Maintain excellent community and government relations by regularly communicating with stakeholders about TI's activities. Responsible for working towards the pursuit of TI's mission and goals, ensuring alignment and support from key stakeholders. Oversee the marketing and other communication efforts of TI.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices. Will have an understanding and respect for cultural diversity, particularly in the context of working with diverse communities. Have a solid understanding of financial management principles, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.



Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong skills in planning, delegating tasks, program development, and task facilitation; excellent interpersonal skills; building strong relationships with the stakeholders; a strong work ethics including being proactive, taking initiative, and demonstrating commitment and dedication to the organization's mission and goals are necessary.



The ability to prepare complex correspondence, reports, submissions, and significant presentations under the direction of the Board; confidently and effectively deliver presentations and speeches to large audiences; provide direction and guidance to a team, set goals, and inspire others to achieve them; work collaboratively with diverse individuals and teams both within and outside the organization; analyze complex problems, identify solutions, and make informed decisions are all requirements of the position. The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and navigate ambiguity. This includes being flexible, resilient, and able to adjust plans and strategies as needed.

Undergraduate or master's degree in business or public administration is preferred. At least five years of Senior management experience in not-for-profit, multi-funded, program-based organizations is required. Five years of experience in successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results, successfully establishing relationships with influential individuals and organizations including funders, partner agencies and volunteers is required. Five years of experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors is requirement of this position. At least three years of previous experience working in an Indigenous organization and/or with Indigenous communities is an asset. Fluency in English is required, fluency in Inuktitut is a definite asset.
