The Executive Director will provide visionary leadership and management to ensure that the organization fulfills its mission and meets the needs of the communities we serve. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and a strong commitment to social justice and equity.
Duties:
Will keep the President and Members of the Board of Directors informed on all important matters and activities undertaken pertinent to the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society.
Will review major activities and plans with the President to ensure that such activity is in conformity to the objectives and policies of the society.
Will ensure that all recommendations and proposals brought before the Board of Directors for consideration or action have the necessary and relevant background information required in making an informed decision.
Will manage the operations of the society according to the priorities and policies as established by the Board of Directors and membership through the Annual General Meeting.
Will advise in the formulation of objectives, goals, and policies both long and short term and other related functions which are designed to improve the Society's effectiveness as an organization.
Will provide input to the Board of Directors in the form of written briefings and/or facilitate meetings, as is necessary, on issues arising from information received from external sources.
Will facilitate and co-ordinate all meetings of the Board of Directors and its Committees and ensure that accurate minutes are maintained.
To ensure that administrative procedures are in place for the society to function in a professional and effective manner.
Works with management with respect to matters of major importance in their respective areas of responsibility keeping them apprised of major activities of the society and discussing with them, in advance, any contemplated action which may have a major effect upon their areas of responsibility.
To ensure that the interests of the Society are protected in all activity linked to the Society.
Coordinate department activities with other senior staff through regularly scheduled team meetings.
To operate the Society within the budgetary parameters as established by the Board of Directors.
To ensure that an annual audit is conducted.
To ensure that the charitable regulations, as set out by Revenue Canada, are fulfilled.
In conjunction with the Director of Finance, provide the Board of Directors with an accurate financial accounting of all expenditures at the meetings of the Board of Directors.
To ensure the establishment and maintenance of positive working relations with all levels of government, Indigenous organizations, as well as other organizations and the public as is deemed advisable and in the best interests of the Society.
Represents the Society or delegate's representation to act on or behalf of the Society in negotiations or other official functions.
To develop and coordinate on behalf of the Board of Directors all public relations strategies and/or events.
Will carry out and implement the responsibilities as set out in this position description and those other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in a non-profit or community-based organization.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, non-profit management or a related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of and respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, and governance.
Proven track record of successful fundraising and financial management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
Sound judgement, problem solving and decision-making ability to apply due diligence in crisis and difficult situations.
