Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

The George and Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI), a partnership between the University of Manitoba, Shared Health and the Manitoba government, aims to be a catalyst for healthcare providers, healthcare decision makers and health researchers in Manitoba to generate and facilitate the use of knowledge to improve the health of Manitobans. CHI is home to Manitoba\'s Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) SUPPORT Unit. The Unit enables and supports patient-oriented research through its key areas of data platform and services, capacity development, patient engagement and research methods and support, all within a learning health system framework. CHI is committed to inter-professional education and collaborative practice, advancing clinical learning and academic healthcare leadership development. Currently CHI has more than 60 full and part time staff and trainees.

Main Function:
Reporting to the Dean of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and the Chief, Health System Integration and Clinical Planning for Shared Health, the Executive Director, working alongside the CHI Scientific Director, is responsible for the successful leadership and management of staff of the George and Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) according to the strategic plan and directions set out by the CHI Partners Executive Council.

The Executive Director creates strong working relationships with key jurisdictional partners - the University of Manitoba, Shared Health Manitoba and the Manitoba Government. The goal is to support and promote patient-oriented research as an integral part of a responsive, learning health system within Manitoba. The Executive Director works with internal and external stakeholders including healthcare providers, researchers and decision makers focusing on the mission to ensure the latest research and evidence is translated into improvements to care and outcomes for patients and citizens of Manitoba.

Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of senior management and leadership experience, preferably in research and education in a Healthcare or the University environment.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline is required.
  • Graduate degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Healthcare or a suitable combination of education and leadership experience.
SPECIAL TRAINING:
  • Knowledge of management principles for the public sector, private sector and not profit.
  • Supplemental leadership training or programs an asset.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Solid understanding of financial management, administration, public affairs, and computer applications.
  • Diplomatic skills which include the ability to facilitate mutually beneficial solutions with various stakeholders are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and consensus seeking skills with an ability to work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders including internal and external public and private sector organizations.
  • The Executive Director should demonstrate critical competencies in four broad categories:
  • Commitment to results: The Executive Director (ED) is a visionary leader and systems thinker who is customer focused and goal driven. The individual identifies relevant information and helps transform this information into individual and organizational knowledge and learning. The ED is action oriented and innovative. S/he translates broad goals into achievable steps, anticipates, and solves problems and takes advantage of opportunities. S/he is a self-starter and team player.
  • Business Savvy: As CHI\'s leader, this position requires an individual with knowledge of and experience in management and administration.
  • Leading Change: The ED possesses the skills and implements the functions of a leader. S/he shares CHI\'s values, mission and vision, and displays integrity, models behaviours while developing people and building teams. S/he has a high degree of comfort, sensitivity and flexibility in working across organizational and geographic boundaries. The individual deals effectively with demanding situations and designs and implements interventions.
  • Motivating: The ED manages continuity, change and transition. This individual knows how to influence and enable others and addresses the impact of attitude and action on CHI. The ED must be a persuasive communicator with a commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and anti-racism.
  • Demonstrated [ level] leadership capabilities. The provincial health system in Manitoba has adopted the
framework.

Physical Requirements
  • Will often work evening, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as CHI governance committees or other meetings and representing the organization at different events or meetings.
