General Description:
The Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre is centrally located in the urban Indigenous community of Halifax/Kjipuktuk and is looking for
One (1) Events Coordinator.
We are looking for an individual with a passion for Mi'kmaq culture, tradition, and language that can work with Elders, community members, staff and external organizations to bring cultural events and event coordination to life. The Events Coordinator plays a key part in preserving and promoting Indigenous culture through the design and coordination of events that connect with community members and partners alike.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate logistics for a wide range of events including [conferences, trade shows, fundraisers, workshops, etc.]
Assist with event planning from inception through post-event analysis
Communicate with vendors, venues, and suppliers to ensure timely execution
Maintain and manage event budgets and timelines
Handle registration, guest lists, and RSVPs using event management software
Support on-site event execution including setup, teardown, and troubleshooting
Collaborate with various departments and community partners for event promotion
Gather feedback and assist in post-event reporting
Ensure events comply with health and safety standards and other regulations
Oversee and manage annual budget
Ensure accurate and up to date entries within the MNFC internal database
May perform other related duties as required
Qualifications & Experience;
Knowledge and lived experience of Indigenous culture, ceremonies, and traditional practices.
Bachelor's degree in Event Management, Marketing, Communications or related field or equivalent experience
Experience organizing community-based events and programming.
Experience managing a budget
Excellent communicator, both spoken and written
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Creative problem solver with a keen attention to detail
Thrives working both independently and collaboratively; Takes initiative and can adapt events to meet the unique needs of a variety of MNFC programs and services.
Dependable and consistently works to uphold MNFC ethics and standards
