Informa Connect is seeking an Event Director to lead its Toronto-based Buildings & Construction Events. Reporting to the Portfolio Director, the Event Director will have direct responsibility for driving growth and innovation within existing Toronto-based buildings & construction events, as well as deciding on new markets to enter and the creation of new business models. The role involves synergistic oversight of the sales, marketing, content and operations teams to deliver more effective physical and digital event products, outcome-oriented customer experiences and enhanced revenue opportunities.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Utilize knowledge of the industry to develop overall strategy for the event(s).
  • Gather information; analyze previous year activities and results.
  • Redefine the goals and objectives based on present trends, market circumstances and competition from other events.
  • Having in mind the long-term objectives, while deciding on near-term priorities and resource allocations.
  • Generate new topic ideas for Live, On Demand and Digital experience including management of Conference program
  • Expand the Diversity and Inclusive nature of our audiences and speaker faculties
  • Demonstrate a commitment to improving the Sustainability elements of the event portfolio
  • Build relationships with key Industry Associations and external partners
  • Interact personally with customers to ensure the business is meeting demands and is market driven
  • Ensure input and feedback from customers is directly translated into visible changes and new ways of working
  • Lead by example and ensure team know what is expected of them in terms of customer focus
  • Set up formal channels to communicate best practice
  • Communicate team successes to the wider company
  • Weigh up requests from customers and take responsibility for making difficult decisions and managing communication where necessary
P&L Responsibility & Forecasting
  • Work with Portfolio Director to set annual budget for the events & digital products.
  • Report on financial performance, market and competitive trends, and resourcing on a weekly/monthly basis
Team Management

General
  • Co-ordinate the activity, processes and output of the team to deliver event on time and on budget.
  • Allocate responsibilities and review priorities and workloads
Conference Development
  • Work with Conference team to identify priorities for digital and in person education
  • Ensure Conference team has staff and resources to effectively program revenue generating education program.
  • Design new strategic education programs to drive revenue.
  • Act as intermediary between content and sales to drive sponsorship of conference & content.
Marketing
  • Work with the Marketing Team to ensure the design and delivery of an intelligent marketing campaign
  • Host project meetings and delegate effectively to hit event timelines.
  • Work with internal Informa businesses to grow community, content, and quality of the portfolio
Operations
  • Focus on designing engaging and interactive events
  • Cost control and intelligent spending of budget
Sales & Business Development
  • Work with Sales Director/Manager to implement sales strategy, create and manage inventory and ensure sales targets are met
  • Be the point of liaison between the conference and sales team to ensure product creation is matched to client needs
Qualifications
  • Successful candidates should have experience leading tradeshows and/or conferences, be growth minded, customer focused, financially savvy and inspired by innovation.
