Reporting to the Proposals Manager, the Estimator or Proposals Engineer is accountable for being the face of Exchanger up-front with the client for all proposals, providing comprehensive technical and commercial estimating expertise in order to optimize Exchanger's profitability and requirements, meet and/or exceed customer requirements, quality and safety standards, and maintain and enhance customer relationships.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Providing technical and commercial expertise in order to provide pricing estimates and proposals in the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process for Air-Coolers, Shell and Tube ( including WHBs or Sx Condensers) or components thereof;
Supporting Engineering and Drafting, Project Management, Procurement and Production throughout the RFQ, Proposal and fabrication processes;
Providing the first point of contact with the customer for technical and commercial queries throughout the RFQ and Proposal stages;
Balancing the interests of Exchanger, the customer and industry to provide a first-in-class product and service.
Specific Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for proposals in accordance with EIL sanctioned programs.
Receive and include inputs from manufacturing, procurement, project management, engineering and quality departments in preparation of detailed estimates.
Prepare detailed bid review summaries in accordance with EIL standard for weekly planned cross functional team review. Ensure follow up items from such meetings are completed.
Prepare RFQs for materials and services in liaison with EIL procurement department as part of detailed estimate and proposal preparation.
Read RFQ documents (forms and specifications) carefully and prepare list of exceptions or substitute offerings. Receive input from various departments (for example - welding specifications from production and QC)
Ensure proposal submissions and clarifications are submitted on time and in accordance with RFQ instructions. Ensure appropriate written communication with client for RFQ extensions or status.
Ensure bid GANTTs are prepared to establish achievable and reasonable delivery dates to client with appropriate contingencies. Receive current feedback from department leaders to build these properly.
Liaison with finance to prepare detailed cash curves representing scope of work as part of payment and cancellation term negotiation.
Prepare detailed job-sheets, final CRDs and SLT squad check forms. Ensure detailed cash curves and GANTTs have also been prepared as part of this process.
Review PO documents to ensure scope purchased is in alignment with EIL offering. Clear up any discrepancies or errors with customer via appropriate change orders.
Support project team with ECO's post award where new or updated estimates are required.
Promote 5S principles in department. Organization, filing manually or electronically.
Qualifications & Skills:
Preference is for a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
Minimum 5 years of related experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment
Technical and commercial acumen (contracts)
Solid understanding of Manufacturing BOM's, MRP, production planning and product lifecycle management
Ability to read and understand mechanical and fabrication drawings.
Working knowledge of pressure vessels, heat exchangers and equipment installation.
Familiar with ASME, API and other industrial codes used in the design of mechanical and industrial system
Customer relationship management skills
Advanced computer skills, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project
Ability to learn new software programs specific to our designs, and ERP related programs
Possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work well with all levels of the organization.
Strong attention to detail
Fluency in English required with solid written and oral communication skills
Ability to communicate fluently in other languages would be considered an asset
Excellent and proven organizational skills in order to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work environment
Ability to work effectively within a team environment and capable of handling projects independently
