Overview

Are you an organizational leader in risk assessment and control with a specialization in ergonomics and human factors? We're looking for an ergonomist or human factors specialist to join the Risk Analysis Unit within the Prevention Services Division. In this role, you will be providing expert knowledge, advice, and guidance to internal WorkSafeBC staff and external stakeholders on ergonomics and human factors, developing and preparing educational resources; assisting in development and implementation of regulations and standard practice manuals; assisting in ergonomic training both internal and external to WorkSafeBC; and apply your expertise to focused areas of emerging and unaligned risks.

What you'll do

As an ergonomist, you will:

• Develop, prioritize, schedule, co-ordinate, and implement short and long-term plans to achieve organizational goals in a timely manner
• Motivate and convince others to apply ergonomic and human factors principles for the prevention of injuries
• Influence and direct various teams and individuals toward organizational objectives
• Prepare and deliver ergonomic information and recommendations both orally and in writing to groups and individuals of varying levels of understanding
• Train, instruct, and mentor others in ergonomic principles and human factors considerations
• Interact with a variety of groups and individuals in a potentially confrontational environment to achieve an appropriate response to workplace hazards
• Apply ergonomic and human factors principles to particular areas of emerging and unaligned risks

We're looking for someone who can:

• Effectively communicate in writing and when presenting information orally to a variety of audiences
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Develop and implement regulations, manuals, and educational materials
• Coordinate and conduct surveys, studies, and investigations into the ergonomic concepts of occupational safety and health
• Identify and define complex problems, gather information, use ergonomic tools, and analyze results using consistent systematic methods to achieve acceptable and effective ergonomic solutions
• Collaborate with other ergonomists in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of ergonomic program

Your experience and educational background:

• A bachelor's degree in ergonomics or a related discipline such as kinesiology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or human factors
• A minimum of four years of directly related experience that includes broad technical knowledge of ergonomics and injury prevention
• Registration with the Association of Canadian Ergonomists (ACE) and/or Canadian College for the Certification of Professional Ergonomists (CCCPE) is an asset
• Possess specialist knowledge of ergonomic assessment tools
• Possess specialist knowledge of principles and practices in musculo-skeletal injury prevention
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
