About Us:

The West Interlake Watershed District (WIWD) works to protect and enhance the health, function, and resilience of local watersheds. Our work supports water quality and quantity, soil health, climate adaptation, and the sustainable management of agricultural and natural landscapes. Through collaboration with landowners, municipalities, and funding partners, WIWD delivers practical, on-the-ground programs that support long-term environmental stewardship.

As we expand our team, we are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to support the delivery of watershed and agricultural stewardship programming across the district.

Job Overview:

As a WIWD staff member, you will play a key role in the implementation and monitoring of environmental and agricultural stewardship projects. This position supports WIWD programs by working directly with landowners, conducting site visits, collecting and managing environmental data, and ensuring compliance with funder, provincial, and WIWD requirements.

This is a full-time term position, with a strong opportunity to transition to a permanent role. subject to performance, program needs, and funding continuity.



Key Responsibilities:



Conduct site inspections and monitoring of project sites to ensure compliance with funder, WIWD, and provincial guidelines. Work directly with agricultural producers and landowners to facilitate participation in WIWD Programs. Assist landowners with program applications, including providing guidance on eligibility, requirements, and Best Management Practices (BMPs). Support environmental and agricultural data collection, data entry, and analysis related to WIWD programming. Populate, maintain, and manage records within the WIWD database. Support public education and outreach related to watershed stewardship, agricultural BMPS, and WIWD programs. Collaborate with WIWD staff on projects related to water quality, soil health, riparian management, and watershed resilience. Assist with the development, review, and modification of application forms and program materials to ensure alignment with program and funder requirements. Support the implementation of strategies that reduce environmental risk and promote sustainable land management practices.

Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree in

Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Agriculture, Geographic Information Systems (GIS),

or a related field is considered an asset Experience working in an environmental field or related role is an asset. Knowledge or agricultural practices and environmental Best Management Practices (BMPs) is a strong asset. Familiarity with watershed-based programming, soil health, riparian management, or climate adaptation is an asset. Experience with Microsoft Office;

ArcGIS Pro or GIS experience is an asset.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with landowners and partners. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Proactive, self-motivated, and interested in applied, on-the-ground environmental work a valid driver's license is required.
