The corporate Environmental Data Analyst is responsible for the development, implementation and management of corporate wide data management processes and systems of key environment and sustainability aspects of NOVA Chemicals. The successful candidate will have experience with data management, emissions calculations and operations exposure.

This is a corporate role that will work closely with our various business functions including Manufacturing, Engineering and Innovation and environmental site-based resources. This position will be part of a team responsible for assisting our business to meet our Environmental Social Governance (ESG) strategic and Responsible Care, sustainability, federal, provincial, and state environmental requirements, and commitments and improve performance in these areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for enriching collaborative efforts within multi-disciplinary groups which will include operations, technology, sales/marketing, leadership, consultants, industry associations, community groups and various other stakeholders. The position reports to the NOVA Chemicals Corporate Environmental Affairs Leader.

This position can be located at our at our NOVA Head Office (NHO) in Calgary, Alberta; Manufacturing East Corporate Center (MECC) in Sarnia, Ontario; or Red Deer Executive Place (RDEXP) in Red Deer, Alberta.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Identify, develop and implement corporate environmental data management processes and programs for the purpose of reporting on and driving performance improvement
  • Coordinate environmental data from manufacturing and innovation facilities to facilitate corporate reporting requirements. Primary data management tasks include maintaining a corporate inventory of greenhouse gas and other air emissions, water, waste and other value-add metrics.
  • Develop quantification methods and ensure alignment with industry best practices
  • Analyze processes and data for key insights and opportunities that support decision making
  • Support the design and implementation of information technology solutions and accompanying business processes
  • Apply project management processes and techniques to manage initiatives
  • Support the implementation of a RC14001 aligned corporate management system with documented processes and procedures
What We Are Looking For:

The successful candidate will have at a minimum, a university undergraduate degree in the one of the following disciplines: Environmental or Natural Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent. They will also have 5 - 7 years of experience within the environment discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation through the PEO or APEGA (or equivalent Canadian regulatory body) OR Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) designation through PGP (or equivalent regulatory body) OR other applicable designation is preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills including ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated attention to detail through analytical and troubleshooting skills, including forecasting
  • Familiarity and ability to interpret and apply technical documentation and industry best practices including existing and emerging sustainability protocols and Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) quantification methodologies
  • Knowledge of production processes and emission sources for large industrial complexes with preference to petrochemical facilities
  • Self-motivated and focused on delivering quality results with the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with teams

Additional Information:
  • Relocation will be considered to the nearest geographical NOVA Chemicals' location for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • This role may require travel (10%) within Canada and the United States
  • Possess a valid Canadian driver's license and be eligible to travel easily between Canada and the U.S. without a need for a VISA (i.e., Canadian passport)
