Job Description


The Environmental Consultation Program Administrator is responsible for assisting in the administration of the environmental consultation program. Organize the environmental assessments into a resource database. Actively seek and source funding opportunities in environmental initiatives that would support the environmental consultation program. Promote CLFN\xe2\x80\x99s presence and interests in environmental matters. Providing expertise on environmental matters and ensuring compliance with consultation and duty to consult requirements. They will facilitate the integration of environmental considerations into the consultation process and advocate for the protection of the First Nation\'s environmental rights and interests.

DUTIES:

The duties and responsibilities of this position are categorized into the following main functions:

  • Environmental Assessment and Planning:
  • Assist in coordinating and overseeing environmental assessments and impact studies related to proposed projects, policies, or developments.
  • Identify potential environmental risks, impacts, and mitigation measures, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Conduct research and gather data on environmental issues, trends, and best practices to inform decision-making and consultation processes.
  • Develop and implement environmental management plans and strategies to minimize adverse effects and promote sustainable development.
  • Provide input on remediation strategies for sites that have been environmentally impacted.
  • Consultation and Duty to Consult Integration:
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Consultation Manager to ensure environmental considerations are integrated into the consultation process.
  • Provide expertise and recommendations on environmental issues, potential impacts, and necessary mitigation measures during consultation activities.
  • Assist in the identification and engagement of environmental experts or consultants to support consultation processes when required.
  • Participate in consultation meetings, negotiations, and engagement activities to represent environmental interests and ensure compliance with consultation requirements.
  • Advocate for appropriate environmental interpretations and recommendations and field work during project monitoring.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building:
  • Maintain relationships with government agencies, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders involved in environmental management and consultation processes.
  • Facilitate dialogue and information sharing between the First Nation, industry proponents, and regulatory bodies regarding environmental matters.
  • Collaborate with external partners and organizations to access specialized environmental knowledge, technical advice, or support when needed.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of the First Nation\'s environmental rights, interests, and values among stakeholders and the wider community.
  • Fieldwork Placements
  • Conduct site visits as needed to evaluate fieldwork.
  • Provide guidance to proponents, consultants and environmental monitors regarding expected direction, quality and completeness of work.
  • Ensure field equipment is up to date
  • Identify and secure fieldwork placements for environmental monitors.
  • Review and maintain field notes of environmental monitors for completeness and accuracy.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
  • Review environmental reports for quality accuracy and completeness, as well as making any recommendations.
  • Prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence related to environmental assessments, consultation processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of environmental assessments, monitoring data, and consultation activities.
  • Ensure timely submission of required reports to regulatory agencies, funding bodies, or other relevant stakeholders.
  • Administration
  • Attend meetings as deemed necessary by the Supervisor.
  • Responsible for the collection of revenue generation from proponents as well as reporting/monitoring of revenue received.
  • Responsible for keeping detailed records of each project, Environmental monitor timesheets and reporting, invoicing and receipts
  • Seek funding opportunities to support Environmental Program and initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS: Basic Requirements: (APPLICANTS MUST SHOW NECESSARY PROOF WITH APPLICATION OR WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY SCREENED OUT)

Education:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of environmental assessment processes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous consultation and duty to consult requirements.
  • Valid drivers license or access to reliable transportation as this position will require travel
  • Possess a basic knowledge of the Williams Treaties and Curve Lake First Nation Traditional Territory, cultures and traditions
RATED REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Experience in conducting environmental assessments and managing environmental projects.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous rights, traditional ecological knowledge, and the cultural and historic significance of the environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, policies, and guidelines applicable to the First Nation\'s territory.
  • Excellent public relations skills, including an appreciation of the need for a tact and positive informed approach with the public.
  • High level of organization skills
  • Excellent computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office and Computer Programs
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment
  • Ability to moderate groups and present material in a print and oral format.
  • High level of tact and discretion
  • Displays initiative and strong sense of direction
