Job Description

Sun-Canadian Pipe Line is a safety-minded team transporting refined petroleum products through Southern Ontario. We are looking for an experienced environmental professional to join the Environment, Health and Safety department. This role will coordinate a range of environmental compliance programs, as well as emergency management and oversee regulatory authorizations. This role will also conduct field inspections and thorough document reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal procedures.The successful candidate must maintain an up- to- date knowledge of existing and emerging environmental and emergency regulatory requirements and best practices and be able to transfer this knowledge through coaching and mentoring of staff.Responsibilities:

  • Manage groundwater management program and remediation projects.
  • Manage HWIN Registration (HWIN Administrator).
  • Manage environmental contractors and consultants (service providers) to support environmental permit, approval and authorization applications (Conservation Authorities Act, Permits to Take Water, Municipal Tree Removal Permits, Environmental Activity and Sector Registration, etc.).
  • Participate in and conduct environmental inspections, assessments and audits.
  • Assist with the documentation and maintenance of company records related to compliance activities and enforcement actions.
  • Assist in the preparation of letters, reports and presentations to stakeholders such as regulatory authorities, agencies, municipalities and company leadership
  • Liaise with service providers and regulatory authorities to coordinate and expedite environmental permits, approvals and authorizations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external service providers in preparation of environmental compliance documentation (Site Specific Environmental Protection Plans, Wildlife and Wildlife Habitat Survey Reports, Spill Response and Prevention etc.).
  • Review applications and environmental compliance documentation to ensure accuracy and develop recommendations for improvement based on demonstrated subject matter expertise.
  • Promote and assist with the reporting of environmental near misses, hazard identification and incidents (spills, releases, LOPCs and non-compliances).
  • Conduct or assist in environmental incident investigations
  • Administer the emergency management program and participate in response duties.
  • Work with leadership to develop, implement and maintain environmental training programs.
  • Contribute to sustainability program.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 10+ years experience of environmental compliance work in industry, in Ontario, CA
  • Post-secondary education or university degree in environmental sciences, or environmental engineering
  • Sound understanding of environmental permitting processes
  • Excellent understanding of legislation and regulations related to environmental protection
  • Previous experience working on linear infrastructure projects is required
  • Emergency Program Management: certification preferred
  • Incident Command System training: preferred
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness to travel in Ontario from Sarnia to Toronto
  • Driver's license in a good standing

Where you'll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:
  • Based in Waterdown, ON, combination of office-based work, field-based work and work from home flexibility
  • Regular 40 hours work week, Monday to Friday
  • Occasional travel required along the pipeline route (right-of-way; pump stations and terminals) which could mean variant weather, temperatures and working hours
