The Business Solutions team at The University of Winnipeg works closely with clients to identify ways in which the adoption of technology can streamline processes, enhance the student experience, and further the mission of the University. The team determines the business requirements and creates the functional design for new software and enhancements to existing software solutions.

The Enterprise Systems Administrator is a full-time continuing position that acts as the primary guardian for UWinnipeg\xe2\x80\x99s enterprise systems. The incumbent is focused on ensuring system quality, availability, performance, and integrity. This individual takes a lead role in recommending, advocating for, and developing policies and procedures that support IT Service Management best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the administration of enterprise systems supporting various groups across the technology sector.
  • Determines and implements system setup and configuration requirements.
  • Oversees and facilitates (or delegates) the resolution of all technical issues associated to the systems.
  • Collaborates with vendors, Director, and technology sector leaders to plan and lead the implementation of major technical or functional upgrades.
  • Leads and facilitates (or delegates) operational tasks including system maintenance and security modifications.
  • Ensures the adherence to change management processes for the various enterprise systems and supporting applications.
  • Acts as the main point of contact with vendors for technical issues, and for monitoring functional updates/upgrades.
  • Analyzes and makes recommendations to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Writes technical procedural documentation.
  • Leads and facilitates the project management of all fixes, patches, custom work and upgrades to enterprise systems, supporting applications and enterprise databases in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Administers (or delegates) user security and access to systems.
  • Leads and facilitates (or delegates) the daily technical operations of the SIS and other enterprise systems.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of a disaster recovery plan.
  • Coordinates the execution of disaster recovery plan tasks as they relate to systems administration.
  • Leads and facilitates (or delegates) the creation and maintenance of system integrated non-Production environments for quality control, testing and project needs.
  • Provides consulting to team members with respect to non-Production environments and makes recommendations.
  • Ensures that the accepted and intended use of non-Production environments is adhered to.
  • Ensures the adaptability and flexibility of system components to enable ease of integration.
  • Must remain current on the use of system, database, and analysis tools.
  • Contribute to, advocate for, and apply strategy, plans, and governance policies essential to Enterprise Systems Administration.
  • With the other senior team members, develops and maintains application and systems architecture, sustainment, performance and security standards and policies.
  • Ensures the effective maintenance of application and systems architecture, sustainment and security documentation.
  • Understands and communicates the impacts of system changes as they relate to sustainability prior to implementation.
  • In partnership with the Senior Information Security Administrator, ensures all application security legislation, policies, and requirements are consistently being adhered to.
  • Makes recommendations in the planning and design of application security architecture.
  • Work in partnership with the Technology Infrastructure group to ensure that server and network maintenance requirements are consistently adhered to ensure high system availability.
  • Ensure continued compatibility and support for software, applications, etc.
  • In conjunction with subject matter experts, develop and maintain Quality Assurance policies to ensure systems are maintained with the highest level of quality,
  • Participate in test plan development and acceptance for component-level integration testing, system integration testing, application function, and deployment.
  • Prior to implementation, ensures that all required levels of testing have been completed to a satisfactory degree and that the required documentation is complete.
  • Leads and facilitates (or delegates) security audits to maintain system integrity.
  • Conducts (or delegates) monitoring of application environments and implements procedures to ensure optimal performance.
  • Determines nature of systems problems, seeks approval for a proposed solution, documents and implements the approved solution.
  • Participates in the development of technical data architectures.
  • Provides technical consulting to TSC and clients related to application systems management.
  • Prepares and maintains a skills inventory for Enterprise Systems Administration
  • Effectively plans and prioritizes work for junior associates, delegating tasks, conveying clear goals and monitoring progress.
  • Mentors and trains junior associates/assistants or administrators.
  • Provides constructive, relevant feedback in a timely manner, and performs performance management for direct reports.
  • Contributes to performance management and/or appraisals of others.
  • Provides training workshops with prepared materials including scenarios and manuals.
  • Provide backup/operational support to the LMS System Administrator.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in computer science or related discipline, or community college diploma program completion in computer science
  • Minimum 10 years of experience enterprise system administration, with particular focus and strong knowledge of Ellucian Colleague system administration and the administration of supporting applications.
  • Expert knowledge of SA Valet (the Colleague System Administration tool), with extensive experience in creating new Colleague environments via the cloning methodology.
  • Expert knowledge of Colleague User Interface and underlying technologies.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server and SQL database structure on an enterprise level.
  • Minimum of 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience administering an enterprise level financials package.
  • Experience with system administration aspects of grants management and housing business support systems
  • Project management fundamentals supplemented with at least 10 years of experience working in a project-based environment.
  • Experience working in an ITIL environment preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Windows server and client environments; IIS and related web technologies
  • Working knowledge of SuSe Linux, Tomcat.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL Server
  • Knowledge of Unidata, Silverlight, and Microsoft Management Console an asset.
  • Knowledge of Java.
  • Experience in assisting in the establishment and enforcement of university standards and quality deliverables.
  • Strong oral and written communication and documentation skills, able to communicate application management and maintenance solutions.
  • Ability to operate effectively and professionally under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and customer service skills
  • Self-motivated with a strong aptitude and desire to learn.
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of personalities and skill sets, and improve the quality of IT processes, services and products.
  • Experience in providing guidance and coaching on application management issues.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to use office productivity software effectively.
  • Advanced knowledge of design and documentation tools such as Microsoft Visio.
  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), but more specifically with design, development, deployment and integration of software modules.
  • High technical versatility/broad industry knowledge.
  • Experience in independent identification of new technologies, tools, and processes that should be considered for adoption by the University.
  • Experience in creating project duration task plans with WBS/critical path logic for solution creation and technical testing.
  • Experience in coordinating the tasks and resources necessary to identify, define, and resolve mission-critical production problems.
  • Experience in developing documentation standards and templates to enable effective sustainment operations and troubleshooting.
  • Sets and conveys clear goals and monitors progress.
  • Obtains results and adds value to the organization by making timely and sound decisions and influencing others.
  • Experience in auditing software developed by other team members.
  • Experience in analysis and assessment of code patches and updates provided by package vendors to ensure they can be implemented without negative impact on existing software.
  • Able to establish and builds relationships with clients, uses client feedback as a basis for improving service and performs necessary follow-up work.
  • Experience in finding creating solutions to complex business challenges and technical problems while remaining within the University\xe2\x80\x99s architecture, guidelines, and specifications.
  • Operates effectively across multiple projects concurrently, manages competing demands and uses time efficiently.

The salary range for this position will be from $71,180.20 to $98,789.60 annually.
