About the Opportunity

  • Understand environment and organizational needs to help the business identify, assess, and monitor enterprise risks.
  • Provide project risk oversight and advisory on strategic initiatives from an enterprise risk perspective, and proactively recommend opportunities for risk management/mitigation.
  • Represent the Risk Team on various project steering committees and assist the business in the application of our Project Risk Management Toolkit.
  • Responsible for Business Decision Framework program and supporting the business as a guide to making sound, well-informed and strategically aligned decisions integrated with our risk appetites.
  • Lead the development and implementation of ERM infrastructure ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements including the championing of skills required to support ERM objectives.
  • Build collaborative and productive working relationships across the organization to establish, maintain, and continuously improve risk management capabilities and promote risk awareness and intelligent risk taking.
  • Perform risk identification and assessments and ensure that there is an effective monitoring methodology and escalation processes in place.
  • Research and continuously improve risk management tools and techniques to identify and monitor significant risks across the organizations ensuring communication of these tools to the business to enable adoption.
  • Responsible for risk training and education.
  • Responsible for emerging risk identification and reporting process as well as ad hoc risk intelligence reporting.
  • Champion the enhancement of third party risk management activities at all companies, including all subsidiaries
  • Responsible for regulatory (e.g., OSFI, FSRA) guideline consultation, feedback, and implementation.
  • Stay abreast of current and emerging risk related regulatory requirements and provide support in reviewing new regulatory requirements related to risk management and provide consultation on impacts to the business.
About You
  • Bachelors or equivalent degree in Business Admin/Commerce/Finance/Economics/Mathematics/IT/Data Analytics/Computer Science
  • Minimum 5 years of Insurance and/or Financial Services Industry experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in leading and managing staff
  • CPA designation would be an asset
  • Industry accreditation in Risk Management or related field (CSC, CIP, FCIP, CRM, CRMP) would be an asset
  • PMP certification would be an asset
  • Experience in leading projects/programs which involve cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to cater and customize communications to suit the needs of various stakeholders, including, all levels of management, board, executives, and external stakeholders
  • Experience and knowledge in managing a risk program or framework
  • Experience with insurance industry regulatory requirements (OSFI, FSRA, Alberta Treasury Board)
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Governance, Risk and Compliance and Controls frameworks
  • Strong blend of strategic, critical thinking, analytical and problem solving and attention to detail
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
