English Conversation Facilitator Lets Go Summer Program For Newcomers

Job Description
The LETS GO summer program helps newcomers to Canada practice their English and experience Canadian culture and customs.
We are looking for 7 volunteers who will facilitate an English conversation circle session once a week, in person at Eastwood Community Hall. This session will be every Tuesday from 13:00 - 15:00. This is a 5 week program and starts on July 11th and will finish on August 10th.
Our volunteers will also have the opportunity to join our field trips on Thursday to various locations of cultural significance with our group of newcomers, though this is not a requirement.
This program aims to be a fun and stimulating experience for newcomers, our sessions are focused on building newcomers confidence in using English and helping them to feel comfortable in their new home.
Desired skills and experience:
- Fluency in English
- Teaching or facilitation experience
- Good speaking and listening skills
- A knowledge of living in Canada and Edmonton that you can share with newcomers
- Have a passion for helping newcomers settle in Canada
- Enjoy meeting people and learning about other cultures
- Be able to reach Eastwood Community Centre on 118th Avenue
- Access to diverse Agency training
- Skill based volunteering which allows volunteers to develop their talents
- Creating new relationships by increasing social connections
- Ability to make recommendations for program development
- Quality supervision and support
- Meaningful recognition
- Reference letters upon completion of 25 hours or more
- Access to the Leisure Discount Program (City of Edmonton)
