Role Purpose

The purpose of the Engineering Project Coordinator within QinetiQ Target Systems at Medicine Hat Alberta, is to provide a broad range project support and direct involvement to the Engineering team for new project developments, sustaining engineering efforts, and external department requirements. This includes the development, maintenance, and reporting of engineering activity schedules; assisting in a recommending change to the scheduling for resource leveling and project prioritization; assurance of project start-up documentation, project execution documentation, project reporting, and project close-outs.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering at QTS Medicine Hat and participating in the engineering planning meetings with the other Engineering department managers you will be a key member to help deliver products and services to our customers in an efficient and effective manner while mitigating internal pressures on the team.

Support and positive communication from all aspects of the QTS business both on site in Medicine Hat and from the Engineering Department in Ashford, UK will be critical for the success of the business moving forward with the continued growth of the company, people, and projects. With this there will be expectation that occasional travel would be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Engineering Project Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and management of engineering projects at QinetiQ Target Systems at the Medicine Hat, Alberta location. This position is available for hybrid work. The duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • To create and maintain a live schedule of all resource allocations for Engineering work undertaken within QTS Canada
  • To work with QTS UK to identify opportunities for cross site resource sharing
  • Coordinate with Management and project managers; resource allocation, scheduling, and reporting of R&D multiple projects,
  • Manage the execution of small technical projects,
  • Ensure engineering project management process and documentation are adhered to including requirements development, design reviews, quality plans and documented deliverable acceptance,
  • Analyzing time management for area to improve efficiency, improve estimate generation, and assets management in prioritization.
  • Reliable and committed to adopting, upholding, and complying with QinetiQ values, ethics, policies and procedures including health and safety, work in line with the ISO 9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2015, general data protection regulations and use of IT, HR policies and procedures, equality and diversity, security and confidentiality, and code of conduct etc., and
  • To meet changing business needs, it may be necessary to make some amendments to the role purpose and accountabilities, and to take on additional responsibilities.
Education/Work Experience Requirements:
  • Post-Secondary Certificate or Degree in project scheduling, project management or technical field.
  • 3 - years' experience in technical project scheduling or management
  • Computer proficiency (Document Management Software, MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook).
Additional desirable assets would include:
  • PMP certification,
  • Work experience in engineering consulting or project environment,
  • Membership in a technical organization.
  • Experience working with an ERP system in a manufacturing environment

Security Requirements:
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Able to obtain a Canadian Class 2 Security clearance
  • Must have a clean background history and obtain criminal record check

  • Ability to multi-task in a computer-operated environment
  • Using a computer and associated peripherals
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Handling sensitive equipment
This position is safety sensitive due work requirements of being on the factory floor near equipment, field deployment and testing requirements as required
