Position Summary

We are looking for a Engineering Summer Intern to join us for a 4 month period, starting in May 2024.

This position will be based out of our Florenceville-Bristol, NB Fry Plant location.

The successful intern will enjoy a broad spectrum of experiences including project execution, process and equipment troubleshooting and interacting with our continuous improvement system.

We are seeking an engaged individual in any engineering discipline and/or computer science. Our Engineering and maintenance departments work with manufacturing equipment and systems, with an extreme level of focus on employee engagement, employee safety, food safety and equipment reliability.

The Team

The fried and frozen potato processing facility in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick sits at the original McCain Foods site which was established in 1957. Approximately 200 people are employed at the potato facility.

This role reports to the site Engineering Manager, working along-side two Project Engineers as well as 45 trades-people in various roles across Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and PLC Programming disciplines.

What You Will Be Working On
  • Support development of 5 year capital project planning.
  • Oversee the project design and review of equipment and systems using established standards.
  • Support capital projects in terms of scope development, cost development and management, scheduling, and execution. Includes directing activities to ensure that construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and customer requirements.
  • Support release of design input to suppliers (integrators, contractors, hardware suppliers, etc.).
  • Acquire and evaluate contractor bids.
  • Support project budgets.
  • Support maintenance teams and reliability efforts through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support maintenance activities through design and procedural improvements.
  • Foster a safe work environment and relentless pursuit of world-class safety performance.
  • Leverage the McCain continuous improvement and McCain Driving Impact (MDI) programs to instill lean manufacturing practices, tools, and discipline to ensure plant competitiveness and sustainability.
  • Make customers and consumers smile by assuring adherence to all company and external quality assurance and sanitation guidelines through strict compliance of regulatory programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
