ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Community Lead, the Engagement Coordinator is a key
member of the NexGen engagement team, with a focus on maintaining
positive and mutually beneficial relationships with Local Priority Area
(LPA) Indigenous representatives and community members.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated with outstanding
interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability for analytical
thinking and respectful effective collaboration with a team. The ideal
candidate will also have strong organizational and project management
skills.
As the faces of NexGen within the LPA, Engagement Team members hold
the responsibility for the stewardship of respectful, positive relationships
with local Indigenous communities, and collaborate closely with the
integrated NexGen team delivering on the generational Rook I Project.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental
rules and procedures.
Develop and maintain respectful and mutually beneficial relationships
with Indigenous representatives, and community members.
Support the planning, execution, and documentation of all engagement
activities, including coordinating meetings and logistics for
engagement and community events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Recognized certificate, diploma, or certificate in a related discipline
from an accredited university or college.
A minimum of 5 years in the natural resource sector.
A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in communications,
including community relations or advocacy. Indigenous relations,
environmental management, natural resource development or project
development experience is considered an asset.
Advanced word processing skills and experience with related software
(e.g., Word, Excel, SharePoint).
Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous guidance such as the United
Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the
Truth and Reconciliation Commission is an asset.
Proven ability to work collaboratively to ensure respectful practices
and meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities.
Knowledge of the history and present-day context of Indigenous
governments, organizations and peoples in Canada is an asset.
Record and manage engagement records (e.g., communications, meeting
minutes), including the management of the StakeTracker database.
Attend and represent NexGen at Indigenous and public engagement
events.
Collaborate with the Rook I Project team to ensure understanding and
integration of Indigenous and community commitments across all
departments and workstreams.
Collaborate with all NexGen departments to ensure ongoing dialogue
on the importance of Indigenous relations and engagement.
Remain up to date on key regulatory requirements in relation to the
provincial and federal regulatory frameworks.
Support and contribute to NexGen’s ESG goals.
