DEI Consulting Engineer\xe2\x80\x99s goal is to hire an Energy Modeler that has graduated from an accredited engineering program working as an energy modeler in the building services consulting industry with a focus on sustainability. DEI Consulting Engineers is looking to grow our team by adding a competent, driven, and self-motivated individual that is working towards their professional designation, developing their knowledge relating to building services, and expanding their technical expertise and consulting experience.
The ideal candidate would be a team player, be able to work well under pressure and tight deadlines and have the ability to communicate effectively and concisely with office staff as well as with clients. The ideal candidate would have knowledge and experience with basic HVAC systems, engineering theory, energy modeling, building construction, and building codes through a combination of permanent or co-op positions, post-secondary courses, and self learning. Qualifications This position is intended for an individual that has graduated from an accredited engineering program and is eligible for register as an EIT with the Professional Engineers of Ontario. Energy modeling experience at an engineering consulting firm is considered an asset. All candidates should bring excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Further qualifications for this role include:
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadline and deliverable dates while working on a number of ongoing projects.
  • Experience with energy modeling / building energy simulation software such as eQuest, IES-VE, etc.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and standard computer software.
  • Experience with Revit, database knowledge, and Python and/or Visual Programming languages are an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other applicable codes.
  • Knowledge of SB-10 is required.
  • Experience with TGS, CMHC and other energy standards/targets is considered an asset.
  • High levels of attention to detail, retention of design approaches, and ability to draw on past experiences and apply to current situations.
  • Ability to think both critically and analytically while applying problem solving and decision-making skills in a fast paced environment.
Role Overview As an Energy Modeler, your role will include working on a variety of design project under the mentorship of Senior Mechanical team members. The position focuses on developing your sustainability and energy modeling knowledge within the building service industry completing relevant sustainable design calculations, and coordination of meeting energy targets with other disciplines. An overview of responsibilities is listed below.
  • Develop and implement energy modeling techniques to evaluate the performance of building systems.
  • Analyze and interpret energy modeling results to identify opportunities for energy conservation and cost savings.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to optimize building design and performance.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations on energy conservation and sustainability measures.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry developments and emerging technologies related to energy modeling and building performance.
  • Utilize knowledge of building envelopes, construction, HVAC systems, and codes to develop energy models of buildings.
  • Update energy models and simulations based on design progression or client requirements to suit specific project energy efficiency targets.
  • Review architectural, mechanical, and electrical design documentation for relevant information to develop energy models for assigned projects.
  • Work with each project mechanical design team to develop the energy model and determine potential efficiencies within the project.
  • Independently draft and prepare formal energy model documentation and reports for submission to relevant agencies and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
  • Gain experience, understanding, and knowledge of sustainable systems design, applicable Codes, and other standards.
  • Projects may include working on residential (low and high-rise), educational projects (public and private schools, post-secondary institutions), commercial projects (box stores, base buildings, etc.), institutional projects (public sector facilities), industrial facilities, retirement / long term care facilities, and a variety of other projects.
