Employment Consultant (1 Year Contract)

Job Description

ReStart is a program of the John Howard Society of Kingston and District. We provide a wide range of employment counselling services to help people prepare for, find and keep employment. We are seeking an Employment Consultant for a 1 year contract reporting to the Manager, Employment Services.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



Complete needs assessment and determine appropriate course of action, including making internal referrals to ES Consultants or the Job Developer for further services on an as needed basis. Support the team through contacting and managing a large caseload of inactive clients for reengagement into services and to various programming. Provide motivation and support to clients while addressing barriers and challenges that clients may face which impact their employability. Maintain a current knowledge of local labour market trends and employment/training opportunities. Maintain accurate and up-to-date files of clients and enter case notes and service plans in the appropriate databases. Provide support and coverage for other departments within the agency, such as Reception, Resource and Information, Intake and Registration Services etc., in the event of staff absences or other shortages. Promote Employment Ontario programs and services, to assess client suitability for those services and to assist clients in applying to such services. Communicate with team and supervisory staff on a consistent basis all information pertinent to the effective and efficient delivery of services. Ensure services delivered are within the Employment Ontario guidelines and within the policies and procedures of John Howard Society. Facilitate various job search workshops, information sessions and job fairs as needed Attend community events to promote ReStart and the John Howard Society of Kingston and District as needed. Maintain appropriate statistical information and reporting procedures as required. All other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:



A degree or diploma in the social sciences field. Work experience in an employment services environment may offset academic standing.
Specific education, training or certification in needs assessment or the common assessment tool is an asset.
Previous experience working with clients who have high/complex needs and/or have multiple barriers to employment. Previous experience working in a fast-paced, outcome-based environment is an asset. Knowledge of motivational, solution-focused and crisis intervention counselling techniques. Knowledge of community resources within Kingston and the surrounding areas. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite, databases and internet. Strong communication skills with ability to gather pertinent information in a timely manner. Knowledge of professional boundaries and ability to respect confidentiality. Excellent communication skills, professional boundaries, customer service skills and ability to respect confidentiality A satisfactory Criminal Police Check
