Job Description

YOUCAN Youth Services is seeking a dedicated, skilled, and community-minded Employment Coach to support youth aged 18-25 in our Road to Work (R2W) Program. This role is offered as a 17- month contract.

The Employment Coach helps young people gain skills, secure employment in construction and related trades, and develop the confidence and self-advocacy skills needed for long-term success.

We are specifically seeking candidates with experience in the trades, construction, road work, or related industries, as your technical understanding will be essential when coaching youth transitioning into these environments.

About the Role



The Employment Coach is responsible for two essential functions:

1. Training & Skill-Building



Facilitate workshops, personal development sessions, and pre-employment training during the 7-week R2W program, preparing youth for work in construction and labour-based industries.

2. Outreach & Employment Support



Provide ongoing outreach, mentorship, and workplace support during each youth's 12-week job placement to help them retain employment, navigate challenges, and pursue long-term career goals.

This position uses a community development approach, emphasizing empowerment, restorative dialogue, and connecting youth to supportive networks.

The Employment Coach reports to the Employment Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities



Facilitate engaging workshops during the 7-week Road to Work training program. Support youth through their 12-week supported job placements in construction/trade settings. Build strong, trusting relationships with at-risk youth through classroom interaction and outreach. Conduct regular outreach sessions to assess readiness, identify barriers, and support employment retention. Partner with employers and supervisors in the trades to support youth success. Advocate for youth by connecting them to housing, mental health, legal, and other supports. Use restorative dialogue to address conflict and encourage behavioural change. Maintain thorough documentation of youth progress and interactions. Participate in ongoing professional development. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Competencies, Skills & Abilities



Effective communication, facilitation, and workshop delivery skills. Ability to build rapport with at-risk and culturally diverse youth. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and record-keeping. Skill in conflict resolution, problem-solving, and violence prevention. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Empathy, patience, consistency, and resilience. Experience in the trades or construction industry is strongly preferred.

Qualifications



Diploma/degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Business, or related field. Minimum three years of direct service experience working with at-risk youth. Experience with facilitation, outreach, and employment readiness support. Proficiency with technology and digital documentation. Equivalent education or experience may be considered. Trade or construction experience is a significant asset.

Working Conditions



17-month full-time contract, Monday to Friday, 8:30am a 4:30pm (occasional evenings/weekends). Moderate physical effort required during events or outdoor activities. Frequent interaction with youth who may display unpredictable or escalated behaviour. Requirements: Criminal Record Check & Child Welfare Check Valid driver's license and clean abstract Personal vehicle for work-related travel

Pay: $52,000.00-$58,000.00 per year
