Provides technical support for all audio and visual systems, and presentation and collaborative technologies installed throughout the campus for teaching, learning, administrative and research purposes, focusing on classroom support.
Planning, installation, configuration, support & preventative maintenance, and repair of a broad range of equipment that includes: audio systems, video systems, projection and presentation systems (projectors, smart boards, HDTV systems, TVs, VCR and DVD players, room control systems, sophisticated digital audio systems and digital switching systems, PC based and IP based video conferencing systems).
Instructs faculty and staff on the safe and efficient use and operation of the above systems and equipment.
Installation and setup of complete audio, video and room control systems, designing and fabricating custom pieces as required.
Consults with other team members and meets with faculty and staff to determine and analyse requirements,
Installs systems, adjusts system or PC configuration or programming and network connectivity if required, testing to ensure systems are operational and meet user requirements.
Preventative maintenance and repair of electronic and audio, visual, presentation, and collaborative technology equipment. Perform preventative maintenance checks and tasks on audio-visual equipment and electronics such as lamp checks and changes, filter checks, cleaning, and replacement, equipment condition and evaluate if replacement is needed. Troubleshooting equipment problems, checking connections and system cables, replacing or repairing as needed. Some electronic troubleshooting, repair, and soldering.
Evaluate new and emerging audio, visual and room control systems and technologies to determine their suitability for use in the University environment. Makes recommendations for equipment and system purchases based on product knowledge and evaluation results.
Analyses user or institutional requirements and recommends solutions to meet these requirements.
In conjunction with department management, faculty and staff, is responsible for planning and scheduling own work based on requests, priorities, departmental assignments, and availability of facilities and equipment. Handles complex tasks on small-sized projects within his/her technical domain, and as such will be involved in, planning, scheduling and coordinating the activities during these projects with other staff members, departments, contractors, and suppliers.
Maintain parts inventory, technical documentation, files and records.
Is responsible for requesting and maintaining spare parts inventory required to provide support for the equipment within the relevant technical areas. Ensures that parts inventories are kept up to acceptable levels.
Maintains technical documentation such as equipment installation schedules, records and details, wiring diagrams and riser drawings, equipment preventative maintenance files and records, and other documentation as required. Is responsible for all aspects of maintaining files such as equipment inventories, equipment usage and maintenance files, project documentation, technical manuals and equipment information.
Maintains current level of technical knowledge in the areas of audio visual hardware and software, and electronics through self-study and reading, and through training and course work where available, or self-teaching when they are not.
Qualifications:
Completion of a 2-year Diploma program in Electronic Technology, Audio Visual Technology, or related program from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Three years directly related experience, or an acceptable equivalent of education and experience may be considered.
Trained, skilled and experienced in audio and video technology, PC and networking technologies. Familiarity with general programming logic. Must have the ability to provide a high degree of client interaction and technical versatility with broad industry knowledge.
Knowledge and understanding of electronic theory and application.
Good working knowledge of AV control system installation and troubleshooting preferably with Extron and Crestron control systems.
Good working knowledge of PC hardware, software and operating systems.
Good working knowledge of IP based networking systems.
Ability to properly and safely use powered and non-powered hand tools.
Ability to analyze and assess user needs, evaluate effectiveness of solutions, and resolve problems.
Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, initiative and resourcefulness.
Ability to plan, organize, coordinate schedules and deadlines for own work while maintaining effective working relationships with others in a collaborative team environment.
Superior customer service skills and abilities are required.
Provides estimates for own activities and tasks. Coordinates own schedule within established priorities
Manages commitments; reports to supervisor on task or project status.
May coordinate project activities of project team members.

Must be able to apply a systemic, disciplined and analytical approach to planning, designing, testing, troubleshooting, and problem solving.

Capable of creating clear and concise technical documents such as user information documents, or technical processes and protocols.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the use of PC operating systems and application software required.
Extensive knowledge and use of standard PC utility software.
Good working knowledge and awareness of PC networking and communication technologies.
Knowledge and understanding of the safe use and operation of basic hand tools and powered shop tools.
Manual dexterity required for the installation, repair and support of AV related technology.
Ability to schedule, arrange and conduct meetings with clients, colleagues, vendors and consultants.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
