ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

PLEASE NOTE THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN CLARESHOLM, ALBERTA

The Electrical Technician is responsible for directing & physically maintaining the overall operations including maintenance, safety, and administrative activities while ensuring positive relationships with key stakeholders and contractors.

The Electrical Technician will participate in ensuring that the plant operates in compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, power generating and contractual requirements consistent with financial and production goals and objectives.

Operations and Maintenance Role and Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in a team-based environment and independently whereas necessary
  • Follow & implement site specific LOTO plans & procedures. Must be capable of identifying all potential energy sources utilizing single line and schematic drawings.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot various project system components such as inverters, switchgears, transformers, breakers, communication equipment, etc.
  • Perform preventative and reactive maintenance activities on a transmission connected solar generation facility. Following OEM specific maintenance requirements in addition to company standards and industry best practices i.e. NETA MTS, CSA Z463, etc.
  • Efficiently complete all field service work order documentation, including adding closing comments to the report and scheduling of any follow up work that may be required.
  • Ensure tasks are performed according to organizational requirements for quality management and environmental, health and safety standards, policies and procedures.
  • Tracking/monitoring of spare parts inventory. Including submission of material requests from management.
  • Must be willing to participate in the on-call rotational schedule outside normal operation hours (including nights and weekends) responding to emergency service or project equipment issues.
  • Work with the team to manage complex technical issues related to the operation of the solar facility, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, repair.
  • Work with the team to achieve annual production and annual budget targets
  • Ensuring all environmental and permit related requirements are met, reporting and compliance documentation for governmental authorities
  • All additional duties as assigned by the Site Manager or his/her designee.
  • Must be able to safely operate equipment used for vegetation management and snow removal of the facility
Safety:
  • Shall be a leader in safety, upholding safety as a core value and foster a safe and clean working environment
  • Operate the site in accordance with strict Health, Safety and Environmental policies, practices, and programs. Following all Health and Safety policies to maintain a zero-incident workplace.
  • Safely escort/oversee third party technicians/contractors on-site as required. Including performing HSE site auditing of the contractors

  • Demonstrate the ability to manage several activities and projects at once, to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports and legal documents

Interpersonal Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to successfully interact with all levels in the organization and with the public.
  • Ability to assist the Site Manager & Assistant Site Manager in effectively presenting information to owners and public groups.
  • Support and maintain positive relationships with local, public and landowner stakeholders
Regulatory:
  • Maintain compliance with the independent system operator (ISO) and ensure all policies and procedures Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) are reviewed and understood
  • Stay abreast of federal, provincial and local laws, rules and regulations and good industry practices, environment and particularly safety, and ensure compliance at all times
Education & Experience:
  • Technical Diploma and/or Red Seal Electrical Trade Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years\' Electrical Maintenance experience
  • Preferred 3+ years previous experience operating in a Power Generation facility
  • Knowledge based around equipment and technology used in a solar power generating station such as SCADA and communication systems, Protection relay\'s, Power Plant controllers, HV substations and MV electrical distribution equipment (i.e breakers, switchgear, transformers inverters, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills & Key Components
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Electrical Code and Alberta Utility Code. Including all relevant Workplace electrical safety code(s)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for both the electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience reading and understanding electrical schematics and logic drawings
  • Must comprehend and practice safe work procedures
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Solid understanding of budgeting and tracking
  • Strong work ethic and high integrity
  • Valid driver\'s license.
  • Solid knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Power Point, and Outlook an asset.
  • Physically capable of working in various plant and field conditions, including lifting, and maneuvering, and working in variable and adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to maintain composure and make sound decisions in stressful situations.
  • Training certificates an asset.
