commitment and customer service. We are seeking an experienced, Electrical Inspector to fill an 11-month term position in Morden.
Under the general direction of the Chief Electrical Inspector, will be responsible for: performing electrical inspections and special
acceptance of electrical equipment of industrial, commercial, residential and agricultural installations in accordance with the
Manitoba Electrical Code; commercial revenue metering requirements; customer stray voltage and power quality problems;
examining electrical plans (including but not limited to high voltage installations, solar installations, and hazardous locations); and
the review, approval and issuance of electrical permits. Will assist MH staff, consultants, contractors and customers with the
interpretation and application of the Manitoba Electrical Code and associated standards. Responsibilities:
  • Will conduct inspections of non-utility electrical installations of all voltages in residential (including apartment and
multi-residential premises), agricultural, commercial, and industrial installations, ensuring that inspections are completed on
schedule and that the interpretation, application and enforcement of the Manitoba Electrical Code is performed in a consistent
manner.
  • Specify and order customer revenue metering equipment in accordance with Manitoba Electrical Code and Customer
Metering Standards and liaise with City of Winnipeg/and or municipal Inspections Department and Manitoba Hydro staff to
ensure metering equipment is installed in sufficient time to meet in-service dates.
  • Investigate and implement mitigation strategies to address customer stray voltage problems and power quality problems
which may include electromagnetic field (EMF) issues.
  • In consultation with the Electrical Plan Examiner, perform examination and acceptance of plans and specifications for
electrical installations (including but not limited to high voltage, solar, and hazardous locations) prior to approving and issuing
commercial electrical permits.
  • Assist electrical contractors and customers in planning and designing electrical layouts and provide other technical assistance
as required.
  • Provide training and guidance to other Manitoba Hydro staff on the correct interpretation and application of the Manitoba
Electrical Code and inspection procedures
  • Will Provide support and guidance to electrical contractors on the correct interpretation and application of the Manitoba
Electrical Code and related documents, as well as on the issuing and administration of electrical permits
  • Will provide support and technical expertise to consultants, architects, engineers, manufacturers and other stakeholders as
requested.
  • Will remain current on changes in the Manitoba Electrical Code, Manitoba Hydro rates and policies, the Manitoba Building
Code as it affects electrical wiring, and major changes to CSA Part 2 standards as they affect electrical equipment.
  • Responsible for performing special Acceptance Inspections and labelling of non-approved electrical equipment in accordance

  • Minimum Grade 12 education and possess a current Manitoba Journeyperson HC Electricians Licence.
  • After having received journeyperson status, a minimum of five years of specific and relevant industry experience in the
electrical construction trade in Manitoba which must include a demonstrated diverse combination of experience in residential,
agricultural, commercial and industrial installations where work is performed under permit, in accordance with the Manitoba
Electrical Code, and inspected by electrical inspectors from either of Manitoba's two authorities having jurisdiction; plus two
years of experience as a Manitoba Hydro Electrical Inspector in the Electrical Inspections Section.
  • Thoroughly conversant with and having significant practical experience in current non-utility electrical construction trade wiring
methods, as well as a high-level understanding of the relationship between electrical construction wiring methods and other
related general construction practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Manitoba Electrical Code, CSA electrical equipment safety standards, the electrical requirements
in the Manitoba Building Code, Manitoba Hydro metering standards, and Manitoba Hydro rates and policies as they apply to
electrical inspection and customer metering.
  • As a journeyperson electrician, experience supervising and training junior or apprentice electricians performing work in the
electrical construction trade in Manitoba.
  • Experience conducting electrical plan reviews.
  • Good understanding of safe work practices, Manitoba Hydro safety manual and other approved practices and procedures.
  • Possess initiative and be capable of working with the minimum of supervision in the planning and organizing of the daily work

schedule.
  • Proven capability of communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, on technical and policy matters with Manitoba Hydro

employees, electrical contractors, consultants, manufacturers, other government agencies and the general public.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in the operation of a personal computer, including a working knowledge of Microsoft

Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
  • Physically capable of moving about construction work sites and performing all other duties of the position.
  • Possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Required to travel and perform work in various locations throughout the province. Will be required to be away from home for
periods of time. This position requires travel by air and you will be required to confirm that you are able to meet Transport Canada's
requirements for airplane travel, as they may be amended from time to time. Salary Range Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $34.54-$49.22 Hourly,
